We’ll share more about our Let’s Do Good Day, but right now I just want to take a minute to brag on this team.

When we asked who wanted to spend a day volunteering together, every single hand went up.

And today they showed up. With energy. With laughter. With kindness. Ready to work, get dirty, get wet, haul some truly ridiculous stuff out of the river…and do some good together.

I wish everyone could know this crew the way I get to know them. They are funny and interesting and hardworking and genuinely good humans. They make our stores better, but more importantly, I’m certain our community is better because they’re in it.

I don’t know…are all business owners this lucky?

Because I feel pretty damn lucky.

I’m so proud of this team. ❤️

📣 Announcement!

Both stores will be CLOSED Tuesday, August 11th for our first “Do Good Day!”

Our entire team is heading out on the river with Friends Of The Rappahannock to pick up trash, give the Rappahannock a little love, and then spend the afternoon together for some team-building fun.

Need something? Stop by and see us today! We’ll be back to normal hours on Wednesday.

A recent Outside article has the outdoor industry talking about representation, and it got me thinking about our own little team at River Rock.

I’m pretty proud of us.

Maybe it’s because I own the shop and have always worked the shop floor, but I’ve been intentional about building a team with different ages, backgrounds, life experiences, interests and points of view. I’ve also always wanted women well represented here - not to check a box, but because women adventure. We hike, paddle, climb, travel, camp and explore, and we’re pretty darn good advocates for getting other people outside too.

Are we representative of everyone? Nope. We’re not, and we recognize that. There’s always room to grow.

But when I started looking at the stats, I realized just how many different experiences exist among these 16 people. My hope is that when you walk into River Rock, there’s someone here you can relate to. Someone who looks at the outdoors a little like you do, has lived a little of the life you have, or simply makes you feel comfortable asking a question.

Different paths. One team.

I’ve been an Altra Lone Peak fan for years. It’s my go-to for hiking, workouts, traveling, and honestly…just everyday life.

But there’s one place it hasn’t been my favorite: standing on concrete all day at the shop.

So I’m giving the new Olympus 7 a real-world test.

Both shoes are zero drop, which I love, but the Olympus has a much higher cushion. If the Lone Peak feels connected to the trail, the Olympus feels like it has built-in shock absorbers. Standing for hours while helping customers? My feet definitely notice the difference. It gives me a little more pep in my step by the end of the day.

I’m still putting miles on both before I declare a winner for this use, but so far I’m impressed.

If you’re on your feet all day—teachers, nurses, retail workers, healthcare professionals, warehouse crews, first responders…I’m looking at you—it might be worth stopping by to try the Olympus 7.

The best shoe isn’t always the one with the most cushion or the least. It’s the one that fits your adventure…or your workday.

Re-Boot tent testing is serious business… and apparently exhausting. Sometimes quality control requires a little power nap.

One of the perks of shopping with us? You can crawl inside the tent, stretch out, see how it fits, and decide if it’s right for you before heading into the backcountry.

Help Us Test the Future of Shopping Local!

Our very first Adventure Passport has already been completed! 🎉 Now it’s your turn.

We’re testing new ways to make shopping with River Rock easier and more convenient, and we need your help. Every completed passport helps us fine-tune these new services and we’re rewarding you for taking the time.

Here’s your challenge:
✔ Shop in-store
✔ Reserve online, pay in-store
✔ Buy online, pick up in-store
✔ Order through DoorDash for same-day delivery
✔ Follow River Rock on social media

Complete your passport and turn it in by September 20 to be entered to win a gear package valued at $1,000!

A few things to know:
• Only 50 passports are available.
• You don’t have to make big purchases - we’re testing the experience, not how much you spend. Grab a pair of socks, a carabiner, reserve a kayak, or order something small through DoorDash. Every test helps.
• Passports can be picked up at either River Rock location.

Not sure who had more fun - the kids or MoMo?! ♥️🐾

A big thank you to one of our local superstar teachers, Emalee, for joining us to read a story and lead a fun nature activity in our courtyard.

And thank you to these sweet kids for giving so much love to MoMo, Jim’s rescue pup from Nepal. Watching them connect with him was such a special part of the day.
