We recently hosted Bike Rodeos around Wheeler County! A bike rodeo is a fun, educational clinic to help teach kids the importance of bicycle safety. Kids brought their own bikes to go through fun obstacle courses and educational
stations. We hosted one in Fossil, Spray and Mitchell and the community really showed up! Did you or your child make it to one of our Bike Rodeos?

We want to thank all the parents, teachers, aids and volunteers for helping with the Wheeler County Bike Rodeos! We truly could not have had such wonderful events without all the help we received. Thank you for all your support!

It’s STI awareness week!

Starting the talk about STIs can feel awkward, but it’s one of
the best ways to keep you and your partner(s)
healthy.

First let your partner know you want to talk
about keeping each other safe and healthy.

Try bringing it up before having s*x with a new
partner. But even if you’ve already had s*x, it’s
never too late to talk about STI testing!

Not sure how to start? We have some ready-to-
use phrases that you can put into action!

In the field of public health we strive to use plain language as much as possible. It may seem like a simple strategy but it can make or break the effectiveness of communication. We use plain language because it serves the people:

It’s inclusive - anyone can understand and retain your information

It’s equitable - everyone has access to and can use your information

It builds trust - people know who you are and what you stand for

It’s realistic and up to date - it reflects how we communicate today

It engages - people know how your information relates to them

It motivates - people clearly see what they need to do

This year’s National Public Health Week’s theme is “Ready. Set. Action!”

READY. Public health is the foundation of strong communities, from clean air and water to disease prevention and healthier neighborhoods. We’re getting READY to celebrate the people and systems that help everyone thrive.

SET. Public health works best when communities, organizations and leaders come together to support health for all. We’re SET to keep building a healthier future together.

ACTION. Public health progress happens when we turn ideas into action by supporting policies, programs and partnerships that improve health for everyone. Let’s take ACTION for healthier communities everywhere.
