Baulch Custom Woodworking was originally in business as Baulch Custom Cabinets and Remodeling. The business has been open since 1980, though the remodeling section no longer exists. Designing and building one-off or small production runs of furniture or furniture-like cabinets AND turned objects, whether art or useful objects like bowls and kitchen utensils is the mainstay of the business.

Been an interesting year with starts and stops and a really good sale during the Christmas Bazaar. Completed new computer table and in the process of completing a custom hutch to go with it-all in red oak. Custom fitted bookcase in Ponderosa Pine completed as well.

Have possible orders for oak barstools (no back but Shaker-Style) in the coming year. Had two corn-hole boards ready-to-make but client decided that paperwork was a bit too much. For present clients and future clients, it's the paperwork (which I really hate) that is a necessity and a safety factor for you, the client, and for me. That's why I push so much for handling it.

AND, final comment for the year: I really wish the people who call would actually ORDER something to be built. Answering the phone in the middle of cutting things (dangerous to stop) or in the middle of glue-up (messy and never easy) just makes things difficult. That being said, folks who know me and my business know, at present, nothing is done out-of-state and almost never done out-of-area. I don't make things "shippable" and delivery and set-ups are explained in the paperwork. So if your really want something custom-made and are willing to pay for it, leave a messadge and number so I can return the call if I cannot get to it do to working in the shop.

May everyone have a Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year. (Not making any resolutions because I'm probably going to break them anyway.)

I will be at the Christmas Bazaar this weekend at 2401 College Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76110, so stop by and see the "old" and the "new" items available. Christmas is getting close, so is the time to get those gifts delivered. Shop here and delivery is guaranteed - walk out the door with it in your hands. (I might still be able to take some "special" orders and have them ready by Christmas) Of course, I will not be the only vendor as many new and old friends will also be there. Stop by, get something to eat and drink at the Tea Room and peruse the shopping areas. Hope to see you there.

Normally I would do raised panels for doors or desks, even some cabinets on my router table but I haven't had that since my shop was in the new garage back before I retired in 2009 and burgled. Just never quite got around to replacing the table or the router. Now I have bigger and better, but still no real table so I did these, first time ever, on a table saw. Added a high fence and some safety things and it appears to work quite well.

I swear it was CLEAN (as clean as my shop gets when I'm working on pieces) a minute ago. HONEST! CLEAN! Have to do it again before I go in anyway ... Oh, well. I tried.

Milling more wood for the small desk and awaiting more information about the red oak I need to order for the large table/desk in the background. Days are good when I can open the doors and use nothing but a fan in the shop.

A final photo of the installed kitchen display shelves with drawers for a "rustic' style as requested. Two coats of Walnut Gel Stain, two coats of polyurethane, and one coat of dark wax. She liked it.

Power is great, but sometimes it needs a bit of finessing to get it right. Hand tools finessing the cuts.

Despite planer problems (belts do melt and break especially if they are not like the old "V" belts) and fussing with hand work (don't shirk from it, but sometimes "power" is faster and better), that it looks good so far and it's coming together. 36"x54"x5" in poplar. Kitchen display shelves.

Well ... it's ugly, but it works. Snipe, using planers and thicknessers, is frequently a major problem. I have seen sleds used to stop it and rollers at each end to help. I thought I might try BOTH the sled (not movable in this case) and the rollers for support. Tried it and it works great with these small bench planers and thicknessers. Granted, as before, it IS ugly, but I'll take ugly and working rather than pretty and not working so much. More lumber to process.

Longer than usual morning, but finally home and ready to get things started again. Lawn, front and back, completed (pesky thing but still must be done); cleaning and wash completed this morning; to A-Animal Clinic for dog's meds; and to Plywood Company of Fort Worth for about 35BF of s2s slrie 13/16 poplar and finally back home. Next is prepping lumber for cutting and sizing. and continue to work on those legs to have them ready for the stretchers I have almost completed milling. Only reason I said a longer than usual morning is because it will be a longer than usual afternoon and probably evening. Thank goodness this is fun or I couldn't do it.

Finally finished insulating the shop, cleaning up and finding things I forgot I had, the new load center panel is in with new circuits, AND ... the new mini-split works like a charm. NO - I am NOT freezing myself out of the shop during these multiple triple-digit degree days, but I am comfortable enough working at about 80 degrees. I have completed a test piece for the new table/desk for the office and have the pieces cut and ready to begin assembly. I have a few orders I need to begin. Really glad I finally made the move.
