Someone had previously repaired this crack in the top ages ago. And While yes this top crack should have had a cleet , which it did, it will little to no good if installed improperly. This cleet was installed with the grain on the top, whereas it needed to be installed cross grain preventing splitting again. Since wood naturally splits along grain lines you need to cross grain lines for added strength and stability. 🙅🏼‍♂️ cross those lines. We removed the older cleet and hydrated the guitar, then properly installed a new cross grain cleet. She will be good as new.

Just a little before/after and some in between process of repairing some body damage on this Martin. Luckily the owner had saved as many tiny pieces as he could from the accident so we were able to puzzle piece it back. Special shout out to my wife for taking the time to piece each one back together.
