🚨 LOCALLY GROWN CORAL HAS ENTERED THE BUILDING

We recently received a large batch of locally grown torch corals and frankly some of them are getting a little too confident.

These weren’t flown halfway around the world.

They were grown locally.

Which means they’re already familiar with Indiana’s natural ecosystem:

Unpredictable temperatures.

Questionable infrastructure.

[LINE REDACTED]

They’re basically natives.

There are some seriously nice torch frags in this batch, along with plenty of other new pieces we’re getting settled in.

Buying locally aquacultured coral also means supporting local growers while adding coral to your reef that’s already been successfully grown in captivity.

Which is responsible reef keeping.

Unfortunately, buying six because “they’re local” is still just buying six torches.

We checked.

Come see the new arrivals at Summit City Coral. 🪸

Please do not ask whether they are farm-to-table.

📦 RECEIVING DEPARTMENT INCIDENT REPORT #34

This week’s livestock shipment has been successfully unpacked.

Mostly.

The current situation is as follows:

• The Blue Dot Jawfish has already disappeared into the sand despite being here for approximately 11 minutes.
• The Clown Trigger has been evaluating everyone with the confidence of middle management.
• The Juvenile Emperor Angel somehow arrived looking more important than the owner.
• The Orange Shoulder Tangs have immediately started pretending they own the place.
• The Ruby Red Dragonets continue floating around as if gravity is merely a suggestion.
• We now have enough Cerith Snails, Scarlet Hermits, Red Tip Hermits, Emerald Crabs, Peppermint Shrimp, and Dwarf Blue Leg Hermits to solve problems most people haven’t discovered yet.

And against all odds…

• 20 Pitho Crabs have returned to continue their hostile takeover of nuisance bubble algae.

Meanwhile…

Coleson has already identified three animals that “deserve their own display.”

Management has reminded him we are still a store, not an aquarium.

Dylan has spent an unreasonable amount of time admiring the surprisingly nice shipment of assorted Acropora colonies despite repeatedly insisting he was “just checking inventory.”

Matt sent a text saying “Don’t sell that one too cheap.” We still don’t know which one he meant.

New arrivals include:

🐠 Blue Dot Jawfish
🐠 Clown Trigger
🐠 Juvenile Emperor Angel
🐠 Bella Sleeper Goby
🐠 Orange Shoulder Tangs
🐠 Coral Beauty Angel
🐠 Christmas Wrasse
🐠 Starry Blenny
🐠 Green Mandarins
🐠 Ruby Red Dragonets
🐠 Carpenter Wrasses
🐠 Pajama Cardinals

🪸 Green Bubble Tip Anemones
🪸 Acropora Colonies
🪸 Green Torch Colonies
🪸 Birdsnest Colonies

🦀 Plus a mountain of cleanup crew…
including 20 Pitho Crabs, because apparently that’s just who we are now.

Come claim your favorites before Dylan names them.

CLASSIFIED UNTIL TOMORROW

Today’s shipment has arrived.

We are legally required to allow the fish time to acclimate.

We are not legally required to stop Dylan from wandering into the fish room every six minutes to “check on them.”

Current status:

✅ Fish acclimating.

✅ Coral settling in.

✅ Nobody has escaped.

❌ Coleson has been denied permission to build a “temporary display.”

See you tomorrow.

Bring self-control.

You’ll need it.

📢 STORE UPDATE

After yesterday’s unexpected closure, we’re happy to report that Summit City Coral is OPEN today!

Several customers reached out to check on us, and we appreciate it.

The culprit?

Dylan.

More specifically…

A parasite in Dylan.

Cyclospora.

Before anyone panics:

❌ It is not contagious through casual contact.
❌ You are not going to catch it by visiting the store.
❌ The fish had absolutely nothing to do with it.

Management has assured us that Dylan has already been professionally given the “wish you were well” statement and hopes to be on the mend soon.

Matt briefly considered replacing him with the Employee of the Month (the Pitho Crab), but HR determined the crab still lacks point-of-sale experience.

Coleson has already asked if this means he’s in charge.

It does not.

So come on in today! The livestock is healthy, the coral is looking great, and Dylan has been temporarily removed from the list of recommended cleanup crew members.

See you soon! 🐠🪸🦀

Customer Questions

We welcome questions.

In fact, we encourage them.

However, after several years of operation, management has identified a few that require standardized responses.

✅ ACCEPTABLE QUESTIONS

“Is this fish reef safe?”

Excellent question.

“What size tank does this need?”

Thank you for asking before buying it.

“What does this snail eat?”

Hair algae, film algae, diatoms, and occasionally our hopes.

“Will this fish get along with my current livestock?”

Now we’re getting somewhere.

⚠️ QUESTIONS THAT REQUIRE A DEEP BREATH

“Can I put this tang in my 20 gallon?”

No.

“Can I keep a Moorish Idol? I’ve never had a saltwater tank before.”

Also no.

“Can I just use table salt?”

Please don’t.

“What are corals?”

Yes.

🚨 QUESTIONS THAT CAUSE IMMEDIATE INTERNAL DAMAGE

“My tank has been running for almost three days. Is it cycled?”

“Can I put all of these fish in a bucket until I get home tomorrow?”

“This fish died after six months. Do you think it was because I never fed it?”

“I saw it cheaper online.”

Then you’ll be thrilled to hear the internet is open 24 hours a day.

EMPLOYEE GUIDELINES

If you hear a coworker quietly say,

“Can you come answer this one?”

Do not ask questions.

Just walk over.

MANAGEMENT NOTES

Matt would like to remind everyone there are no stupid questions.

Only memorable ones.

Revision History

Updated after someone asked if a starfish could host a clownfish if it spent enough time around them.

Section 3.2

Livestock Professional Boundaries

To maintain a safe and professional workplace, employees are reminded that livestock are coworkers, not family members.

The following policies are now in effect:

✅ Saying “good morning” to fish is acceptable.

✅ Congratulating clownfish on laying eggs is acceptable.

⚠️ Naming every invert that arrives is discouraged.

❌ Becoming emotionally invested in a blue urchin’s daily whereabouts is prohibited.

❌ Telling customers, “He’s actually really sweet once you get to know him,” when referring to an urchin is grounds for additional training.

Examples

Appropriate

Customer: “Does this snail eat hair algae?”

Employee:
“Yes.”

Inappropriate

Customer: “Does this snail eat hair algae?”

Employee:
“He likes to start with the longer strands before moving on to the shorter patches. He’s very particular.”

Management Notes

Matt approved this policy remotely.

No one is sure from where.

FUTURE EVENTS DEPARTMENT MEMO:

07/29/2026

This morning Dylan claimed to have experienced what he described as…

“a vision.”

Naturally, we ignored him.

He insisted it was different this time.

He claimed to have seen the future.

According to Dylan, sometime very soon…

ALL ANEMONES WILL BE 50% OFF.

We asked if he was absolutely certain.

He said yes.

We asked about the Holy Grail Anemone.

He became unusually quiet.

He looked back into the middle distance for several seconds.

Then he said,

“Not that one.”

We’ve reviewed the vision.

It appears every Bubble Tip Anemone, Rock Flower Anemone, and other anemone in the store has been affected…

…except the Holy Grail.

Apparently even the future has limits.

Matt has not confirmed the prophecy.

He also hasn’t denied it.

Coleson suggested we rename the event The Summit City Cichlids Vision Sale.

His suggestion has been filed appropriately.

Come visit before Dylan has another vision.

He states this amazing sale is only valid until 08/03/2026.

They’ve been getting oddly specific lately.

🏆 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH MEMO 🏆

The monthly employee evaluations have concluded.

There were concerns.

After reviewing performance, attendance, initiative, professionalism, and whether each candidate actually improved conditions inside the building, management has reached a decision.

MATT — OWNER

Strengths:

* Owns the business.
* This provides considerable job security.
* Occasionally orders exactly what we need.

Areas for Improvement:

* Communication.
* Physical presence.
* Apparently believes “15 Pitho Crabs” is a normal quantity of anything.
* Has nine children yet somehow Summit City Coral remains the most difficult thing he’s responsible for.

Management Comments:
Difficult to evaluate an employee who technically evaluates you.

FINAL SCORE: 6.8/10

DYLAN — EMPLOYEE

Strengths:

* Keeps the store functioning.
* Good with customers.
* Marketing efforts have produced measurable results.
* Can usually identify livestock without consulting Google.

Areas for Improvement:

* Develops inappropriate emotional relationships with inventory.
* Currently involved with a blue urchin.
* Continues behaving like someone with equity despite possessing none.
* Has been informed several times that “I basically run this place” is not a legal ownership structure.

Management Comments:
Strong employee. Unfortunately aware of it.

FINAL SCORE: 7.9/10

COLESON — EMPLOYEE

Strengths:

* Enthusiastic.
* Excellent customer interaction.
* Brings new ideas to management.

Areas for Improvement:

* Brings too many new ideas to management.
* Has never encountered an empty section of floor without imagining a seahorse display tank on it.
* Occasionally purchases coral from competitors to accomplish this.
* Still attempting hostile rebrand to Summit City Cichlids.
* Asked whether this performance review meant he was being fired.

It did not.

His reaction to that information was suspiciously relieved.

FINAL SCORE: 7.2/10

PITHO CRAB — INVERTEBRATE

Strengths:

* Arrived Friday.
* Immediately began working.
* Eats algae.
* Requires virtually no supervision.
* Has not purchased anything from another coral vendor.
* Has formed no emotional attachment to an urchin.
* Has never requested ownership in the company.
* Has never proposed changing the name.
* Does not know what Wisconsin is.

Areas for Improvement:

None.

We checked twice.

FINAL SCORE: 10/10

CONGRATULATIONS TO EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH JULY 2026: PITHO CRAB 🦀

There will be no recount.

Dylan has described the selection process as “fundamentally flawed.”

Coleson wants to know whether the crab’s promotion affects his position.

Matt ordered fourteen more.

Congratulations to our newest and, statistically, best employee.
