Early comic panels often used a printing trick called halftone dot modulation to imply shading, but by the 1940s some artists started using zip-a-tone adhesive sheets to add texture and depth manually—giving inked pages richer contrast without extra press runs. That hands-on layer lets vintage art pop differently than purely printed tones and explains why older originals look so tactile up close! 🎨🖋️
