2025 Military Families Receive Record Number of Free Christmas Trees

For the 21st consecutive year, the Christmas Spirit Foundation partnered with FedEx to implement the Trees for Troops® program. Between December 1 and December 12, FedEx Freight picked up 21,117 fresh-cut Christmas trees from 56 locations and delivered them in varying amounts to 94 total military bases in the U.S. across six branches of service. The trees were donated by tree farms, tree retailers, community groups and individuals.

The number of trees in 2025 set a new single year record for the program, surpassing the previous high of 19,229 trees in 2011. The program has now provided a total of 347,390 free Christmas trees to military members and families since 2005.

The bases receiving donated trees each year are selected by the various branches of service. Fresh cut Christmas trees are gathered at designated farms and retail locations and then picked up by FedEx. They then route them through their distribution centers and deliver them to bases. Once the trees are at the base and unloaded, each base determines how/when to distribute the trees to their personnel.

Every tree has a special tag attached that includes a personal note of thanks from donors, suppliers or supporters.
