🎲 HOW DOES HEROCLIX ACTUALLY PLAY?

Sky High’s HeroClix Specialist Albert sits down with Almon to break down how a HeroClix match is set up and the different ways you can play.

From choosing your starting zone and building your team to discovering characters like the Battle Gnome, HeroClix goes far beyond traditional superhero matchups.

⚔️ 1v1 is the most common format we play at Sky High, but HeroClix also has PvE-style battles where multiple players can team up against one massive threat, like Galactus.

And taking on Galactus comes with a catch: his dial has a built-in timer. Beat him before time runs out, or Galactus takes the win. 🌎💀

Whether you’re into strategy, superheroes, cryptids, mythological creatures, or giant boss battles, there’s a lot more to HeroClix than meets the dial.

What does it actually take to reach the next level?

🧠 Mindset — Sometimes the biggest thing standing in your way isn’t the obstacle in front of you, but the limits you’ve accepted for yourself.

🎯 Intentionality — Growth doesn’t happen by accident. Your daily habits have to align with where you’re trying to go.

📈 Breaking Through Plateaus — Feeling stuck doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve stopped progressing. Sometimes it means it’s time to change the way you’re approaching the climb.

Almon sits down with Sky High’s HeroClix Specialist, Albert, to talk about what the competitive HeroClix scene is really like, from major Orlando events to experiencing the HeroClix World Championship firsthand. 🏆

Albert breaks down what makes Worlds such a unique experience: a tight-knit community, meeting content creators, podcasters, YouTubers and even the game’s developers, plus playing HeroClix from 7AM until the convention hall closes. ⚡

And then there’s the trading. 👀 With new sets appearing early and exclusive promos up for grabs, Worlds becomes part tournament, part trading floor, and part giant HeroClix reunion.

DOOM PATROL | PART 2 🌀

Derek and Almon go deeper into Doom Patrol and why the team can feel like a much darker reflection of the X-Men.

In the 1960s, the similarities were hard to miss: a group of outsiders, led by a man in a wheelchair, sent on dangerous missions while struggling to find their place in the world.

Then Grant Morrison got involved.

Morrison took what had become a fading superhero team and pushed Doom Patrol into the surreal, psychological, and deeply strange territory that would come to define it.

But there’s a darker layer underneath it all.

What happens when the person giving broken people purpose is actually using their brokenness to control them?

The conversation turns to the revelation surrounding Doom Patrol’s leader, The Chief, and his willingness to manipulate people who are vulnerable, isolated, and searching for direction.

And it raises an uncomfortable question about superhero teams in general: viewed outside the colorful pages of a comic, how different is that from Professor X recruiting young outsiders and sending them to fight threats capable of ending the world?

Maybe the strangest thing about Doom Patrol isn’t its surrealism.

Maybe it’s how recognizable some of its ideas become when you strip the superhero fantasy away. 🌀
