Everyone knows Newark—and with good reason.

But after years of sourcing in the UK, we’ve learned there is no single “best” antiques fair. Each has its own personality, its own dealers, its own rhythm…and, importantly, its own fair-day food.

So, ahead of our September sourcing trip, we’re sharing a few of the fairs we love—and a couple still firmly on our list.

Sept 1–2 | Ardingly
Big, brilliant and indoors and out. Furniture, smalls, wonderful dealers—and we’re headed there this trip.

Sept 5–6 | Builth Wells
A fabulous dealer mix, a spectacular drive through the Welsh countryside and quite possibly the best pulled pork and apple sauce sandwich we’ve ever eaten.

Sept 8 & 29 | Kempton
A must on nearly every trip. Set designers, collectors, vintage dealers, familiar faces and the same delicious bacon sandwiches we return to time and again.

Sept 18–20 | Shepton Mallet
We’ve heard wonderful things for years, but our dates have never quite aligned. It’s firmly on the list.

Sept 20 | Malvern
Near and dear to our hearts. One of our earliest fairs and still a favourite—from exceptional antiques to car-boot treasure hunting, with a 99p with a flake for revival (if you don't know please ask!)

Sept 21 | Runway Monday, Newark
All the spirit of Newark distilled into one fast, focused morning. Pair it with Newark Chapel Antiques for a very good sourcing day indeed.

Newark may be the fair that makes the headlines - and do we ever love it! - but some of our favourite sourcing days happen elsewhere.

That’s part of the joy of buying in England: knowing the fairs, knowing the dealers, and knowing where to find the good bacon sandwich and the Mr Whippy truck.

We’ll be taking you along in September.

Which fair would you most like to see behind the scenes?

My heart! My gosh the years, and this summer of sending them back to Uni is the one that really sticks. A sophomore and a junior....should somehow get easier right? They are adults now...they may come back next summer or they may be away in Europe who knows? Our excitement for their futures is palpable but the knowing that they may not return to us is something. Dear J and Z we do love you the most...go be amazing but also know that home will always be a safe place to land. Xoxox

Today is a prep day - we are prepping 6 pieces for shipping pick up and they are all going to different parts of the country.

An English pine barrel backed corner cabinet off to North Carolina, a cricket table to Minnesota, a chest of drawers to Oregon, a pine dresser and oak console to Pennsylvania and a stunning Irish pine dresser to Rotonda West.

Each one hand selected by us in England, expertly restored in our Ft Myers workshop and now on their way to their next chapter.

The last few days have taken shape as a much needed break to step away and be. We took ourselves off to Sanibel for morning bike rides, afternoon ice creams, poolside reads and beach strolls. We visited some of our favorite shops on the island...took in the soothing vibes CĒLĒBRER - Design Studio , the delightful surroundings Nanny’s of Sanibel and picked up some great new reads MacIntosh Books + Paper . We caught a (maybe too close up) sighting of coyotes frolicking, soaked up some of the best marina views Gramma dots Seaside Saloon and explored the newly revamped and frankly spectacular Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium Golly are we ever rested and refreshed. You can catch us back at the shop tomorrow. Summer hours are Fridays and Saturdays 10-4 ❤️☀️🇬🇧

One of the questions we are asked most often is how we decide what comes back with us from England.

The truth is, there isn't a checklist.

Sometimes it's the craftsmanship.

Sometimes it's the proportions.

Sometimes it's simply a feeling that the piece has so much more life to live.

Here are some of the pieces we simply couldn't leave behind.

Which one would have made it into your container?

If we could only buy one category of furniture again and again, it might be an English pine chest of drawers.

Not because they are grand.

Not because they are rare.

But because they work.

For generations, pine chests were hardworking pieces of everyday furniture — built to be used, repaired when needed, and lived with for decades.

Today, they feel just as relevant.

A good pine chest brings warmth to a room, useful storage to everyday life, and a sense of history without ever feeling precious.

Perhaps what we love most is that no two are quite the same.

The knots in the timber, the wear around the handles, the marks left behind by years of use — all reminders that these pieces have already lived full lives before finding their way to us.

And somehow, they always seem to make a house feel a little more like home.

We currently have several English pine chests available in the shop and in our online catalogue.

Which piece of antique furniture would you buy again and again?

For designers, sourcing antiques is about more than finding beautiful pieces.

It’s about finding pieces you can trust.

Every antique we offer is hand-selected in England through years of relationships with trusted dealers and sources across the country.

But our role doesn’t end when the container arrives.

Before a piece reaches the shop floor, our online catalogue, or a designer’s project, it passes through our workshop, where it is carefully assessed and prepared for modern use under Richard’s experienced eye.

The goal is never to make antiques look new.

It is to preserve their character while ensuring they are ready to be lived with and enjoyed for years to come.

For local designers, we offer private appointments and access to inventory beyond the shop floor.

For designers further afield, our online catalogue and trade program provide access to the same thoughtfully sourced and carefully prepared pieces.

We’d love to be part of your next project.

Designers: what is the hardest thing to source right now?

Welcome to Workshop Wednesday.

Over the years, many of you have asked what happens after our antiques arrive from England and before they reach the shop floor.

The answer is: the workshop.

Every piece spends time here being carefully assessed, cleaned, conditioned, adjusted, and prepared for modern use.

That is where Richard’s expertise becomes invaluable.

Long before a piece is photographed or offered for sale, he is testing drawers, checking joins, assessing old repairs, inspecting hardware, and determining what should be repaired, what should be preserved, and what should be left exactly as it is.

Because our goal has never been to make antiques look new.

It is to honor their story and craftsmanship while ensuring they are ready for another lifetime of use.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be taking you behind the scenes of the workshop, sharing the process, the decisions, and the details most people never see.

And we’d love to hear from you.

What have you always wanted to know about antique furniture, restoration, or repairs? Leave a question below and Richard may answer it in a future Workshop Wednesday.

Not every repair is dramatic.

In fact, many of the most important ones are the details most people don't necessarily address.

This mahogany chest of drawers was already a wonderful piece. Strong, beautiful, and full of character. But the back panels weren't quite right.

For us, that matters.

Before a piece reaches the shop floor, Richard goes through it carefully, looking not only at what is visible, but what is underneath, behind, and often overlooked.

In this case, that meant repairing gaps in the back panels and bringing the construction back into proper order.

It is a small detail in the grand scheme of things.

But it is also exactly the sort of thing that separates a piece that merely looks good from one that is genuinely ready for another lifetime of use.

Because for us, the goal has never been to make antiques look new.

It is to make sure they are right.

One of the things we have come to appreciate most since opening our shop is the community of small businesses that surrounds us.

When people visit Fort Myers and Sanibel, they often ask us where else they should go. The truth is, there are so many wonderful places, but these are a few we find ourselves returning to again and again.

Nanny’s of Sanibel — a beautifully curated children’s shop built with so much heart, warmth, and intention by our dear friend Brittany Hartt. A designer of children's clothing who has taken on an island institution and is infusing it with her special brand of coastal magic.

Farmhouse 44 / Pulley & Loom — thoughtfully collected interiors, wonderful styling, and a beautiful reminder that different aesthetics can still share the same love of home. Pulley and Loom source vintage and antique global interiors and textiles and present them with styling that is bar none.

Ives Curated Gifts — one of those spaces where every item feels chosen with care and purpose. Need a go to gift expertly chosen with style and beautifully wrapped on a moments notice? Ive's is the place. Don't sleep on the gorgeous clothing and sweet treats!

Brittany’s Bamboo Barn — an inspirational barn of bamboo and old Florida regency goods that will blow your mind. Thoughtfully restored with an incredible taste level and gorgeous owners.

MacIntosh Books — because every great community needs an independent bookstore, and few things are better than getting lost among shelves of books. Have a wander and feel the love.

What we love most about these businesses is not simply what they sell, but the people behind them. The owners who show up every day, build something meaningful, support one another, and help make this corner of Southwest Florida feel like home.

Community is built one relationship at a time, and we are grateful to be surrounded by so many wonderful people doing beautiful things.

If you’re local, we’d love to hear what shops you find yourself returning to again and again.
