🍯 HONEY & ONION 🧅 Natural Cough Syrup:
• My 2 year old has a cough with signs of a little cold so it was time to dive into the kitchen apothecary.
Ingredients: 1:1 parts raw local honey and onion (I used white onion but red onion is ideal)
YES - it is that simple. You could add additional ingredients like:
✨Thyme, Sage, or Garlic 🧄: when minor infection is present
✨Ginger 🫚, Tumeric, or black pepper : for dry or sore throat - anti inflammatories
Instructions:
• pour enough honey to cover chopped onions
• store in a glass jar with lid in a cool / dark place out of direct sunlight for 24 hours - 4 days (if you need it soon use a spoon to scoop some off the very top)
• after the 24 hours and the honey is infused strain and keep the honey syrup in a glass airtight jar - can be stored in fridge up to 3 months.
DOSAGES:
🥄 ADULTS: 1-2 teaspoons 3-6 times a day
KIDS under 10: 1/2 teaspoon 3-6 times a day

✨Antimicrobial : helps combat bacteria and viruses that may be causing respiratory infections
✨Anti-inflammatory: onions contain compounds such as quercetin and kaempferol, which have been shown to reduce inflammation in the airways. By reducing inflammation it can help alleviate coughing associated with irritated or swollen airways.
