—Fireworks stands can now sell fireworks year-round, not just at July 4th and New Year’s.

—Counties can no longer prohibit private firework displays on private property outside city limits, unless a burn ban is in effect. City fireworks bans are still in effect where they exist.

You may have noticed a couple of possible mountain lion sightings in Oklahoma over the past week across Green Country.

One reported sighting came from the Kaw Lake area in northern Oklahoma, while another was shared near Locust Grove in northeast Oklahoma. Reports like these always generate big reactions, but it is important to remember that not every sighting can be officially confirmed.

Confirmed mountain lion sightings are considered “rare” in Oklahoma, but these numbers are on the rise due to an increase in the number of trailcams. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation has confirmed many sightings over the years, mostly in remote areas, but has recently confirmed a breeding population in Osage County and in the panhandle.

If you ever think you spot one:
• Keep your distance
• Do not approach or feed it
• Bring pets indoors if possible
• Report the sighting to wildlife officials with photos or video if you can safely do so

Whether these are ultimately confirmed or not, it is definitely unusual to see two separate reports in the same week.
