7 years ago today I broke up with alcohol for the last time and committed to a journey I never could have imagined in my wildest dissociative daydream. Most of my life I knew "something was wrong" but I was determined to pull myself up by my mental health bootstraps and just "not let" my past be a problem. When I had my son the first years of his life were so fraught with pain and fear and confusion as we journeyed to his Brittle Bone Disease diagnosis (via many traumatic injuries) and I realized boot straps were not going to cut it if I wanted to support him in what would surely be a life long struggle between him and his human suit.

Being diagnosed with PTSD after so many years of struggling silently wasn't a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow but it is a reminder to me that all of us are multitudes, all of us hold so many stories, all of us can make change. It's not a light switch; it's practice and discipline and humility and a lot of fu***ng up. A lot of fu***ng up. But I guess I am here to do just that- f**k things up. ❤️ Whatever your struggle is- know that you aren't alone and that sincerely there is recovery. Maybe it's not *the* step but you can make a choice today that is *one* step in a new direction. ❤️

The phrase "finding oneself" implies it leads to the end of a journey when really you arrive and it's very much just the beginning of another one.
