Thanks for your understanding and support. “Thanks to my hymn-loving parents, I grew up in an environment rich with hymns. They are God’s Word-redressed with simple language, rhythm and enduring melodies. Hymn texts have been crafted to stand alone. They need little embellishment. I treasure them and how they emphasize what God has done for me through Christ.”

HYMNS IN MY HEART is closed - for now.
(Will share the same post to continue reaching my 1,000 followers.)

Dear HYMNS IN MY HEART Followers,

Last week, I had to make the decision to find a new printer/distributor for my greeting card line. Thysse Printing, from Oregon, WI, has been doing an OUTSTANDING job serving my unique needs. However, my project is not meeting a necessary revenue threshold. They were kind enough to let me use up the remaining cardstock that had been cut and perforated, and my largest client, Bethany Bookstore in Mankato, put in a large order yesterday to finish up the stock.

I've had a few days to research other printing companies, and it is unlikely I will find one to do what Thysse had been doing for me - at least for a cost that would not break a small business's bank and make my greeting cards unaffordable.

After much prayer and reflection, I know two things:

1) I sincerely want HYMNS IN MY HEART to continue (the product is unique and serving so many Christian hymn-loving souls).

and

2) I don't necessarily have to be the one to continue it (I'll be 59 this year, and I know the work it would take to start producing them from my home, which my father and I had done for 25 years. I don't have that gusto anymore, especially alongside a full-time job for at least the next five years).

Several people have expressed an interest in continuing the endeavor but no conclusion yet on who that might be. Discussions will continue to be ongoing.

So, to my amazing, loyal and kind-hearted followers I say the following:

*THANK YOU, THANK YOU for your support and encouragement during this entrepreneurial chapter of my life. All of your comments, glowing reviews, heart-warming stories, 'likes,' and 'hearts' have been little and large blessings salting my path for the past 30 years. I think I can say with certainty that my clients are some of the kindest folks on earth, with hearts for the Gospel of Jesus.

As I continue to mull all of this over and research a way to keep the business going, I ask for your prayers, and more practically, your IDEAS. If you're someone who loves hymns enough to make a side-hustle out of them, or you know someone who might be a good fit for the endeavor, please contact me: [email protected] or 920-723-7895. I'm all ears and open to considering all possibilities.

The following stores have just put in fairly large card orders to beef up their fall inventory, in the event that you're nearby and would like to stock up:

Bethany Bookstore, Mankato, MN
MLC Bookstore, New Ulm, MN
Tuttle's Pharmacy, Fort Atkinson, WI
Jefferson Drug Store, Jefferson, WI

This hymn verse fits any occasion, but it's especially nice for any type of 'farewell.'

I will keep this page active at least through the end of September.

May the Lord bless and keep all of you trusting in his promises, faithful to his Word, and always found humming a hymn.

Happy humming!

Liz

BLESSED 4TH OF JULY

Few things move me more than stories about patriots who suffered loss or death in pursuit of or to protect our country's freedoms. I did some research on 'patriotic individuals during the revolution' and discovered this story about Thomas Nelson, a regular farmer who valued freedom from British tyranny over his wealth and property.

I thank God for individuals like this who paved the way for our nation to begin, and for those who continue to sacrifice to keep our nation free.

+ + +

THOMAS NELSON, JR.
In 1776, Thomas Nelson Jr., a Virginia planter and fervent patriot, faced a wrenching choice. As a delegate to the Continental Congress, he passionately supported independence, but signing the Declaration of Independence meant risking everything. His wealth, tied to trade with Britain, and his family’s safety were on the line, as the British branded signers as traitors.

When debate faltered, Nelson’s resolve shone. He urged his fellow delegates forward, declaring liberty worth any cost. He signed the document, knowing his vast estate, including his beloved Yorktown home, could be targeted. Later, during the Revolutionary War, Nelson’s fears materialized—British forces ravaged his property, and he gave his fortune to fund the patriot cause. He even ordered cannons to fire on his own home when it became a British stronghold, prioritizing victory over personal loss.

Nelson died impoverished in 1789, his health broken but his spirit unbowed.

Thank God that 'Nelson's resolve shone.' His courage clearly influenced others to sign their names, and the birth of our country began.

FLAG DAY & 250-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES ARMY

A NOTE FROM HYMNS IN MY HEART
"I'm sincerely grateful for the opportunity to design special greeting cards for active-duty service members and their families, a privilege extended to me by the Lutheran Military Support Group.

As a veteran, I know firsthand the profound impact a simple, heartfelt greeting card can have on a soldier or their family. Service members and their loved ones make immense sacrifices—whether stationed abroad or waiting at home—sacrifices that too often go unnoticed. The importance of keeping them in our thoughts and prayers cannot be overstated, and more importantly, letting them know they are remembered and cherished.

The hymn verses I chose, from 'Children of the Heavenly Father' and 'Lord, Keep Us Steadfast in Your Word,' felt well-suited for this project. These hymns, among the first I learned as a child, remain embedded in my heart. Their familiar words carry comfort and strength, making them a perfect fit for these cards.

The designs use darker colors to reflect the solemn reality of military service. The military is not a world of pristine beauty; it is marked by blood, sweat, mud, and tears. While an American flag waving under a clear sky is inspiring, such moments are made possible only through the grit and sacrifice of our nation’s soldiers. Their selfless service, even to the point of laying down their lives, echoes the profound love of Christ’s sacrifice for us.

It is my prayer that these cards will bring encouragement and blessings to all serving soldiers and their families. The texts inside make them appropriate for sending any day of the year."

Happy humming!

God bless America!

REVIEW
“I love the cards! I will be a returning customer. The artwork is beautiful and the hymns are well chosen. I sent a sympathy card with a memorial to a friend after the death of a family member, and he wrote back that since receiving the card, the words of that hymn verse keep going through his mind and making him smile.”—Susan

REFLECTION

Last night held inside it a moment I won't soon forget.

I had attended a meeting at the school our church started a few years ago. After the meeting, I walked through the halls to look at the artwork and see any other changes that had taken place since the last time I was there. Watching the school bloom and grow is one of my favorite pasttimes.

My last stop was the gym - our beautiful regulation-size high school gym. One of our church members had recently made a large wooden cross for the center of the largest gym wall. I stood by the gym entrance doors and peered in, never expecting to see what I saw.

At the base of that beautiful cross stood the night janitor, a small woman - maybe 5'3. She had propped her long mop up on the wall next to the cross. Both of her arms were draped over her head and both her head and arms were squarely resting on the bottom portion of the cross. Her head was low, as if in prayer. Her body was leaning forward into the cross as if it was helping her rest. And there she stood - quiet and still.

My eyes immediately welled with tears. I watched her for a good three minutes, crying. The scene was so unexpected and stirring. The size of the dimly lit gym made her look like a lego figure in comparison. But there was no doubt this woman knew where her strength came from and where to go when her own strength failed.

Christ's cross.

When she grabbed her mop and started sweeping again, I caught up with her. I wanted to tell her I would pray for her but found out quickly she didn't speak English. I pulled out my phone and through Google translate was able to convey my offer of prayer and understand from her that she's going through a health issue that troubles her. She was grateful to be asked. We Google-chatted for a bit, and as I was walking away, she asked for one more thing while urgently pointing to the cross, "Mayor fe. Mayor fe."

'Increased faith.' That was her second request, I would find out.

Everything I need to know, focus on and pursue in life I saw in that scene last evening.

Thank you, Cecilia, perhaps the most beautiful night janitor ever to sweep a gym floor.
