Meet the Competitors: Cory Wedemeier

Representing G&M Fireworks, Cory Wedemeier of Brillion, Wisconsin, is turning a dream into reality at Battle in the Sky 2026.

Cory's journey into pyromusicals began at the PGI Convention in Oshkosh, where G&M Fireworks owner Matt Mastey introduced the team to the incredible world of choreographed fireworks. That first convention sparked a passion that has brought Cory back year after year.

After purchasing Finale 3D at last year's PGI Convention, Cory dedicated himself to learning the software and creating his own shows. Before Battle in the Sky, he had only designed one simple demonstration show to share with friends.

Inspired by the song "1776," Cory knew he wanted to create a patriotic pyromusical celebrating America's 250th anniversary. When Battle in the Sky was announced, he saw the perfect opportunity to bring that vision to life.

Designing within the competition's available inventory challenged Cory to think creatively, and while he expected to be competing against experienced professional designers, he never imagined being selected as a finalist.

"It was an incredible surprise," Cory shared. "The entire G&M Fireworks team was just as excited as I was and immediately volunteered to help bring the show to life at PGI."

For Cory, Battle in the Sky is about more than competition. It's proof that with a vision, a passion for fireworks, and the willingness to learn, anyone can take the leap into designing.

Join us on Wednesday, August 12, as Cory and two other talented designers compete in Battle in the Sky and transform the night sky through music, storytelling, and fireworks.
