For more information about FCM including subscriptions, sponsorship, former contributors, featured authors, staff, etc., please visit our website at www.floydcountymoonshine.com. SUBMISSIONS
Simultaneous submissions are okay, provided you notify us as soon as your work is accepted elsewhere. Please do not send us any previously published material. We acquire one-time print rights and indefinite e
lectronic archival rights. All contributors are paid with a contributor’s copy. Cover letters are optional. All cover letters should immediately precede your submission within your WORD attachment. All prose submissions should not exceed 8,000 words. Please name the file of your WORD attachment submission as your full name, and provide a brief biographical sketch accompanying your submission within your WORD attachment. You may submit through our website at www.floydcountymoonshine.com or email your submission to [email protected] or submit by mail to 720 Christiansburg Pike Floyd, VA 24091 (although we prefer electronic submissions because the process is much quicker and easier to keep track of submissions). SHORT STORIES, POETRY, ESSAYS, & NOVEL EXCERPTS
Any and all subject matter is welcome, although we gravitate toward Local Color (especially stories set in Floyd, the New River Valley, or a specific rural setting) and the Southern Gothic. Short stories, essays, & novel excerpts should not exceed 8,000 words. Submit up to 5 poems. INTERVIEWS
Interviews with writers in all genres should be submitted as edited transcripts. Interviews of local authors preferred. Please let us know where and when the interview took place, along with a brief biographical sketch of the author interviewed. You are encouraged to submit an author photo and author publication history as well. Interviews should not exceed 3,000 words. ART
Floyd County Moonshine is primarily a literary magazine; however, we reserve pages for several art submissions each issue. We print in black and white; therefore, art in conducive mediums, such as pencil or charcoal, would be most suitable. We accept photography as well. We encourage, but not restrict, subject matter that expresses an agrarian aesthetic. Some art may also appear on our website. We would also appreciate art which epitomizes the unique cultural spirit of Floyd. Please submit your work as a high resolution jpeg file and title the jpeg as TITLE NAME_BY_YOUR NAME, for example, ‘Moonshine by Nate Brash.’
COVER PHOTOS
Floyd County Moonshine will accept full color high resolution cover photo submissions. All photos must only be taken in Floyd County, Virginia. The majority of our cover photos must have two focal points, one on the front cover and one on the back, since the cover photo always wraps around. We advise you to view previous cover photos to get an idea of what we look for. Cover photos also appear on our website. In your email submission, be sure to specify the exact location in which the photo was taken.
