Since we moved here, the trees have been producing much fruits.

Maybe they "know" we are here for good, and they're giving us a big welcome!

KUMQUATS
We are completely new to this fruit. I planted a wee small 14cm specimen many, many years ago and it’s slowly grown taller, producing 3 - 4 fruits each year, never enough to do anything substantial with.
This year however, it’s produced perhaps 50 kgs of fruit!

So I’ve just made my first batch of Kumquat Marmalade, following a recipe and cringing at the amount of sugar needed fruit and although it has a lovely flavour, it is still super sweet! I really must explore other ways than traditional jam-making recipes.
Anyway, I am rather pleased to produce something from our first decent harvest.

You can apparently eat these guys, skin and all! The skin is sweet and the flesh tart! Not sure my tastebuds are quite there yet, but here’s hoping we will get there in time. I must say, the tree looks stunning with all its orange orbs hanging like Christmas baubles!! 🤗

The nutritional content of marang is a bit hard to find as it’s not a well known fruit outside of the Philippines or those few fruit-obsessed circles.
