Took a few hours Friday to catch some largemouth on the surface. Fishing was great, nothing big but fun. Bass were jumping out of the water to catch dragon flies dancing by. I had a dragon pattern that produced along with the Floaty Bug. Below is a modified dragon fly to give a more solid silhouette and hopefully will take fish. If lucky I will give it a try next week. The dragon flies are black with black barring on the wings. My concern is the silhouette and the wings staying in place to give a true dragon fly look.

4x Long hook, Crinkle Hair (Pale Dun and Black), Gray thread and a custom dubbing blend (Dragon Black). Some UV glue to keep wings in place. I will Dungeon Juice the complete fly before fishing.

I will give it a test run next week if I am lucky!

I am out of The Dungeon for a few days to do some 'testing".

Below is a very simple pattern that I have used for largemouth, perch and sunfish these past few years and have done very well when other patterns did nothing. I will hopefully will be trying these on trout, smallmouth and maybe crappie. I don't know why it works well but it does. It is a very simple pattern. It could imitate leeches, maybe crayfish, small baitfish and even larger aquatic insects.

4X Long hook, 14-40 Bug Legs (use medium, baby or tweener as well), thread body and BG Dubbing Arctic Wind for the collar and a bead. I believe Leech Dubbing would work as well. It is a very sparse pattern which goes down quickly without a lot of weight to it and casts easily.

The Lavender color has been the best overall for the water I fish. I will try the copper/orange as I have done well for smallmouth on patterns with these colors...maybe a crayfish?

These are on a #8 and about 2" long overall.

Over the years I have used many different nymphs with results varying. A number of years ago I started making and using KRAP Dubbing and these very basic nymphs have caught many fish in lake and rivers. Various trout, sunfish, perch, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass etc with a surprising number of larger fish landed including smallmouth and largemouth.

It is a very simple and quickly tied fly using just KRAP dubbing. The best colors, at least for me and a few friends, have been the colors in the photo below. Sizes #12 thru #16 have been the most productive , for me, in especially the Red-ish color.

I believe the productivity of this fly lies in the base dubbing before any particular color is added. The multitude of colors in the dubbing, legs (in various sizes) and Starburst seems to be the key in the success of these flies. Perdigon patterns and Jig style flies are becoming more popular but my choice is the Krap Nymph....dead drift, stripping or as a dropper off a large dry fly.

Bottom line...it has been productive and works for me.

Sizes #1, #4, #6, #8, #10, #12...interesting hook. Straight and Not Offset.

Bass, Trout etc. and a trailer hook possibilities...nice strong looking hook, just a test hook at this time.

A small update...we have added 2 new colors of H2O Twist...Chartreuse and Jet Black. The Pearl Black has been renamed Pearl Peacock Black and will have a more olive-black look.

I am trying to have the Fishscale Tinsel up as quickly as I can.

We are almost there with the new line of hooks OS700 coming in. There will be many sizes available.

I finally have the BG Hair Spirit Fibers up on the site with all images. There is a note about the colors of some of the color images.

A much finer fiber synthetic hair with a slight crimp to it. 30 colors to choose from. approx. 22" overall length.

Working on the Fishscale tinsel this coming week and hopefully will have the OS700 Hooks coming this summer.

The Chartreuse H2O Twist will be available in a few weeks when I get time.

I hope everyone is doing fine and getting some fishing in. It has been hectic at FTD and I have been slow in posting here.

I am hoping to have the NEW 'Big Game Hair - Spirit Fiber' up this weekend (maybe not all images but trying to get them up). This is a much finer fiber, just very slightly crimped synthetic hair as compared to the regular Big Game Hair. There are approx. 30 colors available in 12" length (24" overall).

I just received the raw product of the up and coming Fish Scale Tinsel (I think it looks very similar to what is called lateral scale). This will hopefully be in colors and in 12" lengths (24" overall) similar to H2O Twist packaging. The tinsel itself has the same standard tinsel width as H2O Flash (1/64").

I might be having a Chartreuse H2O Twist shortly available to tyers.

I am looking at other possible materials this coming year to be a part of the FTD line-up. All I need are Time and Money!

I will update on the Spirit Fiber etc. in a few days.

Also, I have and will have approx. 30 colors of a NEW Big Game Hair (BGH-Spirit Fiber) available in a few weeks as I get the colors ready. This is a fine straight hair as compared to the regular Big Game Hair. The hair fiber is similar to the Big Game Hair Tinsel Blends hair..

Another also, looking into more holographic tinsels and a new clear tinsel (hopefully this will work out).
