We need your voices now more than ever. Alabama House Bill 529 (HB529), which recently passed the Alabama House with a vote of 86-10, is now under consideration in the Senate. This bill could have serious implications for small businesses, consumers, and our community.

Key Points About HB529:
• New Tax on V***r Products: A $0.10 per milliliter excise tax on consumable v***r products sold wholesale or imported into Alabama, starting October 1, 2026.
• Increased Costs for Retailers: Retailers will be required to purchase a $150 permit and file monthly tax reports.
• Revenue Distribution: Tax revenue will be split, with 50% going to the State General Fund, 25% to counties, and 25% to municipalities based on population.
• Strict Regulations: Establishes permitting requirements for distributors and introduces stricter definitions of “tobacco specialty stores.”

This bill could significantly impact our industry and the availability of affordable v***r products in Alabama.
