Here’s a little furniture-flipping lesson I learned the hard way… more than once. 😅

After sanding and before using an oil-based stain, I always wipe the wood down with odorless mineral spirits. It helps reveal any spots where I may not have completely removed the old finish or top coat before the stain goes on.

It takes about 10 seconds and can save you from having to remove the stain and start all over again.

Such a simple little step, but definitely worth doing.

Any other furniture flippers learn this one the hard way too? 😅

Confession time… waterfall furniture has never really been my style.

I usually walk right past pieces like this, but for some reason this one came home with me. Maybe it’s because I’ve learned not to judge a piece by its current condition. Sometimes all it needs is a fresh perspective.

So, I’m stepping outside my comfort zone and giving this waterfall server a makeover.

Do you think it deserves a second chance, or would you have left it behind?

Stay tuned to see what it becomes!

There’s nothing better than seeing a piece completely transformed. 🤎

This dresser started out a little tired, but with some sanding, a fresh coat of Sienna by Alchemy by Fusion, updated hardware, and a touch of dark wax, it now has so much warmth and character.

Swipe—or watch—to see where it started and how it turned out.

This piece is now available at AnitaTrinket in Fleetwood, PA.

Sometimes we spend so much time looking at our phones that we forget to look around.

This little guy was waiting on my patio door this morning. 💚🐸 Sometimes the smallest things are worth noticing.

I really do believe almost every piece of furniture deserves a second chance… but every once in a while, a piece reminds me that it’s already had about five. 😅

This curbside china cabinet had me convinced I could save it. We removed the entire back because the veneer was lifting, filled countless spots with Bondo, repaired loose veneer, sanded… and every time I thought I was making progress, something else started bubbling, lifting, or falling apart. It was like playing furniture whack-a-mole.

The plan was to paint it in Fusion Mineral Paint’s Buttermilk Cream for Anita at AnitaTrinket to show that yellow is making a comeback. Unfortunately, this cabinet had other plans. I even used almost a full jar of paint !!😕

Sometimes a piece is simply too far gone, and that’s okay.

One of the hardest lessons in furniture refinishing is knowing when to stop. Not every project is worth the time, money, or frustration, and there is absolutely no shame in saying, “This one’s done.”

If you’re working on a piece that seems to be fighting you every step of the way, this is your reminder: it’s okay to let it go. Save your time and energy for the next piece that’s actually worth saving. ❤️

This isn’t a piece I would normally bring home…

In fact, I usually pass right by armoires.

But there was something about this one that made me stop, take another look, and bring it home.

It definitely needs a makeover, and painting it is the only way to go. Now I’m trying to decide what direction to take.

What color do you think would give this old armoire a whole new life? 👀
