While shopping today for that perfect Birthday card, this one caught my eye. 😉 Theodore Roosevelt was a man of varied Interests but nothing superficial. Any subject worth his attention he soon became a master of. He selected things worth while as he saw them and became a master of both the principle and details. He was a student of history, not of the dry pages of facts, and he brought his acute intellect to the study of history and, compiling his findings in an orderly manner, used the facts in dealing with modern problems.
Also, the teddy bear, inspired by a helpless bear President Teddy Roosevelt refused to shoot, the teddy bear's creation resulted from the accidental combination of a tethered bear in a Mississippi woods, news stories about the president's refusal to shoot it, and a cartoonist's eye for an arresting image.
"We have all been delighted with the little bear cartoons," Roosevelt wrote the cartoonist, Clifford Berryman on Dec. 29, 1902. As the president's delight was widely shared. In New York City, Rose Michtom, the wife of a Brooklyn candy store owner Morris Michtom, made two stuffed toy bears, placing them in their window at $1.50 each with a sign calling them "Teddy's Bears." Soon stuffed bears were selling so briskly that the Michtoms established the Ideal Toy Company to keep up with the demand. 😁
