Sent my sister a few memes about how sisters are happiest when they buy their brothers gifts… and she actually sent me a book in the mail. The system works. I am a genius. She is the best. That is all.

The Saxophone Colossus left us yesterday at 95, but his music lives on in every groove. Spinning Reel Life today. This Japanese pressing with the obi strip feels especially precious now. One of the last true giants of bebop. There will never be another.

CCR’s Cosmo’s Factory + Orval Trappist

Swampy rock meets Belgian funk. We didn’t plan it, but it just made sense. These are two of the many many MANY reasons I love my little lounge!

It’s time for the Friday Music Challenge!!

Today’s Theme: Show me an album by an artist or band who shares the same nationality as you.

My Choice: So many artists to choose from being American, however I have to go with the local bad boys Lynyrd Skynyrd who became the kings of southern rock.

Street Survivors (1977) plays like a greatest hits album “What’s Your Name,” “That Smell,” “You Got That Right” are just a few of the jams from this album. It went gold in just ten days and is still the band’s highest-charting album ever.

Tragically, just three days after the albums release, their plane crashed in Mississippi taking the lives of Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, and his sister Cassie. The flames cover was immediately pulled and wasn’t restored for 30 years.

Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak – Alternate Versions” has been collecting dust in my bin for way too long… and honestly, unacceptable. Arguably the greatest Irish band to ever do it and people are just sleeping on this?! I may just have to take her home for myself!

Just shipped out this beautiful early pressing of Joni Mitchell’s “Blue” today! This was mastered by the legendary Bernie Grundman and was still wrapped in the shrink (the gatefold never opened).

Someone has a great spin to look forward to!

I couldn’t be prouder to claim this one. Meet Paul Young, a fellow Young with serious talent!
His 1985 masterpiece The Secret of Association is one of those albums that just never gets old. Paul had this incredible gift for taking a song whether his own or someone else’s and making it feel completely, deeply personal. This album is something that I will always remember listening to as a kid and loving its catchy/poppy songs that would just stick in my head all day.

The album gave us “Everytime You Go Away”, which hit #1 in the US for good reason. Then there’s “I’m Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down” and “Everything Must Change”, both showing just how versatile he was.

Two Youngs, both with great taste! What’s everyone else posting this week?
