🍂✂️ Looking for something creative to do over Fall Break? Join our Teen Art Takeover!

On Saturday, October 24, artist Anna Seifert will lead teens through the wonderfully anything-goes world of Junk Journals! 📚✨

Using a mix of unexpected and repurposed materials like recycled papers, old book covers, scrapbook pieces, tea- and coffee-dyed paper, and more, participants will create a journal that is completely their own. They’ll experiment with layering papers, textures, and embellishments before learning the basics of binding and finishing their journal.

Use it for sketching, writing, photos, keepsakes, lists, memories… whatever you want! There’s no “right” way to make a junk journal, and no two will look alike. 💛

Curious about Traditional Arts Today? These little visitors certainly seem to be. 🐇🐦

Traditional Arts Today is more than a shop or gallery. We’re a place where creativity, craftsmanship, and community come together, with a mission to preserve, celebrate, and pass on the traditional arts for generations to come.

Step inside and you’ll discover the work of a wonderfully diverse community of artists and makers, from pottery, painting and fiber arts to jewelry, woodworking, printmaking and so much more. Many of these art forms carry traditions, skills, and stories that have been shared from one maker to another, and we’re proud to help keep them thriving today.

But traditional arts aren’t meant to simply be admired from afar! Through hands-on classes, artist demonstrations, exhibitions, community partnerships, and gatherings, we create opportunities for people of all ages and experience levels to learn, make, share, and connect.

You can also stop in to browse something handmade, find a one-of-a-kind gift, enjoy a cup of coffee and a treat, discover a new artist, or simply wander in and see what catches your eye.

Whether you’re an artist, a maker, a lifelong lover of handmade things, or just a curious critter passing through, there’s a place for you here. ❤️

Come explore, create, connect, and discover what Traditional Arts Today is all about.

Featured Artist: Kim Henzel 🎨

This week’s Featured Artist may look a little familiar! Along with serving as Artistic Director at Traditional Arts Today, Kim Henzel is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, printmaking, mixed media, and hand-carved wood.

Kim’s work explores connection, belonging, place, and memory through expressive color, texture, and attentive observation. Since making her home in southern Indiana, the landscape, wildlife, architecture, and everyday moments around her have increasingly found their way into her work.

Her practice moves freely between mediums, from richly layered pastels and paintings to hand-carved linocuts and playful printed goods. Whether capturing a quiet moment in nature, a familiar local place, or a slightly dapper fish in a suit, Kim’s work is rooted in curiosity and the small details that make a place or moment feel meaningful.

Several of Kim’s original works, prints, and handmade cards are available at Traditional Arts Today. Stop in and take a closer look! 👀

Creating with intention 💜

Through our ongoing partnership with Dove Recovery House for Women, we recently gathered for another afternoon of creativity, connection, and making together. This time, the Doves created colorful beaded bracelets featuring words chosen for their own personal meaning, from reminders of peace and love to affirmations like I am enough and unstoppable.

The simple, repetitive process of stringing beads can offer a calming, grounding experience, while choosing each bracelet’s words gives its maker an opportunity to reflect on something even more meaningful: identity can be chosen, reclaimed, and rebuilt.

These handmade bracelets will become part of a special collection available at Traditional Arts Today, giving our community an opportunity to carry these encouraging words with them while supporting this meaningful collaboration.

We’re so grateful to Dove Recovery House for Women for continuing to welcome us into this space and for sharing in the healing, connection, and joy that can come through making something by hand. 💜
