Happy Father’s Day to all the incredible dads from the entire Paradox Comics-N-Cards family!!!
We’re celebrating with another great day of gaming here at 814 Main Avenue. We’ve got one more Magic: the Gathering Marvel Super Heroes Prerelease at 1PM. We’ve got Sunday Game Day starting at 11AM for our board gamers, role players, and tabletop fans.

Marvel Super Heroes Magic: the Gathering is an amazing smash hit with fans! Paradox Comics-N-Cards had one of its busiest days of all time thanks to Marvel fans and Magic players yesterday, but that was just the beginning. In comic terms, it was issue #0!

Marvel Super Heroes is here and our shop is full of action! Comics meet gaming in the greatest blockbuster of all time at Paradox Comics-N-Cards.

Nearly 40 players cracked their very first booster packs and the battles are just beginning. Join us all weekend and you’ll play the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thanos, Doctor Doom, and a huge variety of Marvel’s greatest characters while playing the greatest fantasy card game.

Here’s what’s coming up:
*6PM Tonight: Single Player Prerelease
*12N & 6PM Saturday: Single Prereleases at both times plus 2-Headed Giant team event at 6PM
*1PM Sunday: Both single player and 2 player prerelease

What’s a prerelease? It’s the perfect event for any comic fan or any card player, from the beginner to the lifelong collector. You get 6 Magic: the Gathering booster packs from which you’ll put together a super powered card deck and face off against other players. It’s a completely casual time where every player walks away with at least one additional free booster pack!

In two weeks, the friends and family of Isadora Wengel are putting together an incredible day to both honor her memory and use her legacy to help others. Izzy was murdered last winter and the search for her remains continues with hundreds of volunteers searching for her to help bring closure to her family. Now her friends and family want to turn that energy into a means to help others facing domestic abuse.

In 2 weeks, the Izzy Cup will be held at 814 Main Avenue. They’ve planned a day of live music, food, silent auctions, and a video game racing tournament. Izzy loved Mario Kart and the Izzy Cup is going to benefit Sollera, formerly the R**e and Abuse Crisis Center.

You are invited to help in any way you can:

It’s June 14th and that means Paradox Comics-N-Cards opened 33 years ago today.
Yesterday, during Nerdy Rummage Sale, I reminisced over the pre-Paradox days of my life. Our event yesterday drew well over 2000 attendees to our outdoor marketplace. There were more than 60 vendor booths and that was what had me flashing back to days gone by. The first thing I ever did on my own in anything even remotely resembling a professional capacity was buying a booth at a ValleyCon in south Moorhead circa 1991 or 1992. I hauled over my unsorted, dirty, shabby, collection of long boxes that represented my nerdy comic shop upbringing. But I managed to sell a copy of Magnus Robot Fighter #1 that I paid cover price for, maybe $1.95?, for $30 and I felt like a mad genius. There are a lot of moments that brought Paradox to life, but that one stands out. It was maybe the first time in my life I felt like I was good at something and I chased that feeling.
The idea that now I’m hosting vendor events and someone there is having that same experience, feeling that same sensation, and the future of nerd businesses is alive and well, I’d say thriving, is surreal.
I can’t say thank you enough to everyone I’ve met these past three plus decades, everyone who has taken a chance on Paradox, from customers to staff to vendors to business partners to distributors to manufacturers and so so many more people, I’m driving the boat but you all had to be there to make this happen.
I’m 56, 33 years in to this crazy journey, and I still feel like the best days are ahead. Do you feel like that in your life? I hope so. I’ll know it’s time to retire when I lose that feeling but that is a long time off. You wouldn’t believe the list of things I want to make happen next.
This picture was taken the first night we were open at 814 Main Avenue on August 1st 2024, the first day of our new adventure after leaving our long time home at 26 Roberts St. It’s one of my favorites of the new place.

And we’re back at it today with another great Sunday Game Day, with a learn to play Magic: the Gathering event, and so much more. Thanks for reading this way too long rambling post and see you soon!
