Say hi to Micheal 👋

How has art helped him in his recovery?
Art is and has been in an outlet for me. Been more so in recovery.. whether I’m sketching doing collages making stickers or shirts, mail art or planning something.. it gives me the focus to create rather than to destroy and that’s really what recovery is about....

Say hello to Bridget!

How has art helped in her recovery?
“As an alcoholic, I delved deeper into my interest in painting when I entered recovery. I’ve found painting to be an outlet for anxiety and other emotions, and the meditative practice of becoming absorbed in a piece I’m working on has been highly therapeutic for me. Taking the risk of putting my stuff out there has helped me learn to walk through fear and insecurity, and ultimately has helped me to connect with people in the Portland and Cape communities, as well as giving me the opportunity to get to know other artists in recovery as well. It’s been really cool to see the other ways in which people in recovery use different forms of art as self-expression and as a positive method to help their sobriety.”

Bandaids don’t cure tumors. They just cover them up.

Bandaids should be ripped off not left for years.

Let’s not repeat the past.

Say hello to Tom 👋

How has art helped in his recovery?
“Creating art through a variety of mediums is a relaxing, therapeutic, and fun experience. An addict in long-term recovery, I find art to be a healthy, creative way of expressing my feelings surrounding my
experiences beginning with child abuse that led to my spiraling down into a decades long nightmare of depression, anxiety, and addiction as well as my struggle to overcome despair and create a life of meaning and compassion. Though I rarely show my art publicly, I hope that sharing my story will help remove the stigma around addiction and give others permission and courage to tell their own stories.”
