**FEATURE FRIDAY 🪵 | From worn out to custom built**

Sometimes the best transformations start with, *“Can you do something with these?”*

A customer brought JR their old, worn-down radiator covers looking for an upgrade—and instead of simply repairing what was there, JR gave them a complete rebuild.

The new covers were handcrafted from **solid cherry**, paired with dark metal screening to keep the original function while creating a much cleaner, more finished look. And that cherry grain in the sunlight? 🤌

It’s a great example of what custom woodworking can be: not just building something new, but finding a better way to make the necessary pieces in your home fit your style.

**Old radiator covers ➡️ fresh solid-cherry upgrade.**

Have an oddball project or something around the house you wish looked a whole lot better? Those are some of JR’s favorite challenges.

THROWBACK THURSDAY 🥃 | The Jenkins Speakeasy

Going back to 2019 for a project that was definitely outside the ordinary—and exactly the kind of custom work JR loves.

The Jenkins family wanted a true speakeasy feel for their home bar, and JR got to help bring the whole vision together. He built the bar tops, countertops and barrel feature from scratch, supplied the wood for the bar front, and refinished the existing cabinetry to tie everything together.

And the details on this one were GOOD. The dark distressed finish, warm wood tones, brass pipe foot rails, barrel detail and even the hidden lift-up section of the bar all worked together to give the space that old-school speakeasy feel.

This is one of those throwbacks that shows what custom really means around here. It doesn’t always start with a table or a slab of wood—sometimes it starts with an idea for an entire room.

Have a slightly crazy idea for your space? Those tend to be some of JR’s favorite projects. 😉

Mill Trip! 🪵🚗

Yesterday was a family trip to the mill… which means JR was in his happy place. 😂

He spent some time perusing the lumber and picking out the right slabs for an upcoming custom table, while we also got some lumber planed down for a round table top that’s already in the works.

One of the best parts of custom work is that it really does start right here. JR isn’t just ordering whatever lumber shows up — he gets to dig through the stacks, look at the grain, knots and character, and choose the pieces that fit each project.

And obviously, you can’t make it a family mill trip without a stop at Agapē for some great food…and a little quality time with the GOATS. 🐐😂

Pretty solid family outing in our book. 😂🪵

Workshop Wednesday 🪵

Sometimes a custom job starts with a plan… and sometimes it starts with, **“We need to fix this.”** 😂

After hearing some customer feedback about the tables in the back dining room at Butcher on the Bay, JR got right to work.

A trip to the mill for some fresh **walnut slabs** → hand-picked and cut to size → sanded and sealed → new tops installed and ready for dinner. 🔨

And THAT is a pretty satisfying before & after. The new walnut tops fit the space perfectly and give customers a little more room to enjoy their meal.

We’ve loved getting to be a part of this restaurant from the beginning — and even more, being the call when they need something custom made to solve a problem.

Go check out the new tables (and grab some dinner while you’re there 😉).

🌳 WOOD TYPE MONDAY: Wormy Maple 🪵

We’ve already featured Sugar Maple for Wood Type Monday, but this week we’re looking at what happens when maple gets a little… buggy. 🪲

Wormy Maple isn’t actually a separate species of maple. The name describes maple lumber that has been naturally marked by insects. Beetles and other wood-boring insects create small tunnels and holes in the tree, and the tree’s response to that activity can leave behind the dark streaks, mineral-like coloring, tiny holes, and irregular patterns that give wormy maple its unmistakable character.

Basically, what might look like an imperfection in the tree becomes one of the coolest parts of the finished piece.

And no two boards come out quite the same. Some have just a few dark streaks, while others are absolutely loaded with character—which you can see in some of JR’s past projects, from custom tables and cutting boards to that one-of-a-kind bathroom vanity.

JR has always been a fan of wood that tells its own story, and wormy maple definitely does that.

🪲 Bugs did the decorating. JR just figured out what to do with it. 😂

THROWBACK THURSDAY!!!

A custom piece that came full circle. 🤎

Years ago, this customer found a one-of-a-kind buffet in our showroom and brought it home for their living room.

When they decided the space needed a coffee table, they came back to JR to create something custom that would complement the piece they already loved.

JR built this solid ash coffee table to feel like it had always belonged there—keeping the natural character of the wood front and center, from that wild grain in the top to the live edge and chunky ash base.

One of the best parts of custom woodworking? Adding pieces to a home over time that work together without ever feeling like a matching furniture set.

Workshop Wednesday throwback 🪵

Going back to 2021 when I had the chance to be featured in Fallston Neighbors and share a little about how JR’s Timeless Treasures got started.
I’ve always liked working with my hands, finding old pieces, figuring out how things are made, and turning an idea into something someone can actually use. What started with buying and selling at flea markets eventually turned into a store, woodworking, and more custom projects than I probably ever imagined I’d build.

A lot has changed around here since this article came out, but I’m still doing what I love — building, creating, learning as I go, and seeing what I can make out of the next piece of wood.
Pretty cool to look back at where it started and see where we are now.

The full article is still up on our website if you want to give it a read — LINK IN BIO.
