Princeton Update
He has some discharge coming from his incision so they want to sedate him tomorrow morning and take a culture and also check that the muscle they had to cut through during surgery is still holding together. They’re keeping a close eye on his anemia and malabsorption but looks like it’s going to be a few more days at least before he can come home. Tuesday will mark 2 weeks since he’s been in the hospital.
They’re doing bloodwork either daily or every other day. We did get negative blood results for AIHA/IMHA (immune system diseases) which is wonderful news!!
He is extremely thin. Like the thinnest I’ve ever seen a dog with my own eyes 😭
His spirit is still soo strong which is keeping us strong.
I wish we had more answers and information to give. It’s incredibly hard not having our boy home, especially for Alma. This sweet girl is not a solo companion. We’re really lucky she’s been so strong and well behaved through all of this.
It’s so hard waiting day by day for his body to show the progress we need, but we know he’s in wonderful hands and exactly where he needs to be to heal properly.
Please continue to keep him in your thoughts, send all of the healing and protective energy, vibes and juju, and continue to send your prayers. This is a marathon we were no where near prepared for and I have no idea how we’ve kept our heads above water during the literal most stressful, heartbreaking event of our lives.
I’m so grateful for all of our friends and family who have reached out for updates and allowed me to vent while on the verge of a mental breakdown. I do apologize I’m not responding to everyone, or reaching out individually to give updates.
Yesterday was the absolute hardest once we saw how thin he was, and desperate to come home. Nestor and I both (understandably) shut down mentally and physically.
I’m even more grateful for Nestor, who has gone above and beyond preparing home cooked foods for Princeton, (and making sure they’re high in vitamins and nutrients while also bland and digestible) dropping everything to travel almost 2 hours away to pick up blood and get it to Princeton in time for a same day transfusion, all while being our rock while I break down mentally and physically. I couldn’t ask for a better partner to be “doggy parents” with. Princeton, Alma, and myself, are so incredibly lucky to share life and love with you.
Again, this is a long marathon, but it is a true MIRACLE that he’s not only survived this long with this thing inside of him, but that he also survived such an intense complex surgery and is showing a healthy appetite and strong will to live.
We know our boy is a true fighter, and we know exactly where he got that from.
Jill, Marco, Polo, Bailey, Willow, and soooo many others are by his side keeping him safe.
Thank you for taking the time to read this update and I will continue to post others as we learn more 💗🐾
