This is an important update to all of our loyal supporters.

We will still be having the open house tomorrow -- We will taste wines and beers as well as fresh veggies with our Onion Beer Dip, Bill’s Blue Ham Snacks and nuts. Come join us from noon until 6:00.

Relocating: We are moving the Wine Barrel into the Cave…

We are now working to find the proper venue to continue to provide “Unique Quality Wines at Reasonable Prices.”As most of you know we have closed “Barrel Cave Wines and Gourmet” in Fairlawn. We had also developed a plan to open a “Bistro and Wine Bar.” After many months of work involving the developer, contractors, food service and restaurant consultants, we concluded the business plan was not feasible at this time. Thus, we are selling off some things we do not need and moving the other items into storage – “The Cave.” We are now researching and planning our next phase.

Some of the things we are considering include:

-We will stay in the Fairlawn/Radford region. This is the area we know and we have an established customer base.

-We also know it will involve “Fine Wines and Craft Beers.”

Based on our experience, this will not be a “quick fix” for two reasons:

o The direct move to the Wine Bar would have taken three to four months. So setting up another retail operation will take considerable time.

o Second is the ABC Licensing process, which also takes time.

We feel we understand the needs of our customers and plan to service them. We plan to maintain our Facebook, website and e-mail contact accounts to keep everyone informed of our plans and progress.Kathy is planning ways to keep involved with the gourmet foods and those who enjoy them. Bill is planning to maintain contact with those in the community; as well as consult/advise on wines and other “Unique Quality” things we all enjoy.

We are carefully evaluating all possibilities. If you have ideas and/or suggestions please send them to [email protected]. We will take the time to plan for the best way to bring the Wine Barrel out of the Cave, so once again it can be enjoyed by all.

Thank you for your support.

Equipment Sale Open House on Thursday, June 18th from Noon to 6:00 p.m.

The quote: selling “Lock, Stock and Barrel” is often used for a major sales event. We have decided NOT to sell the Barrel… We will keep it as a memento of Barrel Cave Wines and Gourmet. However, the equipment and everything else must goes. Thursday, June 18th from 12:00 (Noon) until 6:00 p.m., we will host an “Open House” to enable interested parties the opportunity to view and purchase all of our wine shop and kitchen equipment. Most items are only two years old, in excellent condition and discounted 50% under original cost. Items to be sold with, price listings can be viewed at http://www.barrelcavewines.com/ #!equipment--public-sale/cfsm

We will accept all forms of payment; cash, checks and all credit cards. If you have questions or need additional information, call or e-mail Bill at 540-250-5597, [email protected].

As with all of our events, we will have some unique gourmet food upon which to snack and a little fine wine to taste.

The shop is located in Fairlawn, across the river from Radford. Street address: 7331 C Peppers Ferry Blvd., Radford, VA 24141, Shop phone 540-838-2283(CAVE). We are in the same strip mall as Verizon Wireless and Matt Hagen, near Walmart.

Please pass this on to others who might be interested.

Thanks,
Bill

Thanks to everyone who supported us over the last few years. We have enjoyed ourselves so much. It has been a real pleasure to provide fine wines, great foods, unique beers and gifts to this part of the NRV.

Barrel Cave Wines and Gourmet did well and even received the Pulaski Chamber of Commerce “Small Business of the Year Award 2014.” However, we were not meeting our business goals and objectives.

As most of you know, our next objective was to open a “Wine Bar.” This concept received overwhelming support from our customers, friends, the general public and developers. There has been an expert group, who have spent considerable time and effort to help us develop an accurate business plan to open “Barrel Cave Wines: Bistro and Wine Bar.” We have spent the better part of the last three months fine tuning this plan. Our personal and business goal were to implement and execute this plan over the next three to five years. However, because of the high cost of building and start-up, a three to five year plan is not feasible. The business plan showed that we needed to implement it over ten years or more.

For us, at this time in our lives, this is not possible. Thus, we are closing “the shop” and will not open a “Wine Bar.” We will miss seeing all of you as we did on a regular basis. We also know we will miss the “professional excuse to drink fine wines and eat good
food.” Just eating and drinking all the time is just not socially acceptable.

We raise a glass to you in thanks.

The “Relocation Sale” is going very well. Our customers are very happy to be saving money on their favorite wines, beers, foods as well as gifts. Our inventory has diminished as will our hours of operations. This week we will only be open Friday, May 29th. from 12:00 (noon) until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 30th from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

These last two days of open hours are intended to complete the sale of items we cannot relocate. This particularly includes food and beer. Because of the time delays of construction, obtaining the necessary permits and a new ABC License, we estimate we will not reopen until August or September. At least we can store wine that long.

We are in the final stages of negotiating the contract, but since it is not final, we cannot disclose the details. However, we know that most of you would like to know what we plan to do. What I can tell you is this:

The existing shop will conclude open hours of operations this week. As stated above, we will only be open Friday, May 29th from 12:00 (noon) until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 30th from 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

We will accept and provide customers the service of special orders until June 16th. Call Bill Directly at 540-250-5597. Special conditions apply.

We are tasting beers which are on sale; up to 20% OFF.
The Snack is “Kettle Krinkle Cut Salt and Pepper Chips” with our “Blue Cheese and Beer Dip.”

The blue cheese and beer dip is easy to make.
Ingredients:
· 16 oz. sour cream

· 3 oz. blue cheese (crumbled)

· 2-3 oz. beer (The same beer you are drinking with the chips and dip.)

Place the sour cream in a bowl and add the blue cheese. Blue cheese is a strong flavor, so be sure it is finely crumbled. Add just a little beer and begin to mix. Continue adding beer and mixing until the dip is smooth and the consistency you like. This dip is best prepared 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to permeate completely. Keep cold. Mix again before serving. Serve with your best beers and favorite chips.

Tomorrow we will be tasting wine and, crackers with a basil, tomato and olive oil dip.

We look forward to seeing you.

Here is the recipe from the tasting today:

Bill’s Blue Ham Snack

Have leftover ham? We have created an easy quick snack treat.

Items needed:
• cooked ham sliced to about ¼ inch thick
• Creamy Gorgonzola or Blue Cheese
• Pepperhouse Gourmaise (Boar’s Head)
• Sourdough Bread thin sliced
• Toaster or broiler oven
These can be made any size. We used them in the shop as small bit size which is ideal as an appetizer. They can also be larger and served as an open face toasted sandwich.

Procedure:
• Lightly toast the bread on one side.
• Remove and cool
• Place on baking sheet with toasted side down.
• Place small amount of the Gourmaise on the bread
• Next add ham and top with cheese.
• Return to Broil and toast until cheese melts.

Can be served warm or cooled.
