Fairhope threw down at the 30 Year Throwdown. Thank you to all that came and enjoyed the music and art.
Marla and the Singers (Baldwin County), Bankhead Boys (Mobile), Reconciler (Baldwin County and Atl), Rufus McBlack (Baldwin County), Pine Hill Haints (Florence, AL) and Grayson Capps (Baldwin County) are as amazing as any live bands that i’ve ever seen and proof that original, edgy music and art has a place in our area. We wanted you to discover them too. There’s a feeling that this area is on the verge of being the go-to area for bands and musicians. We need some infrastructure and some help from the fans. Go to the shows, buy the merch and share these bands with your friends. Take photos and videos and send them to the bands. Encourage venues to pay the bands fairly (many do) and encourage the media to take notice.
I must also mention the super-heroes that helped out - Greta (the Great), Jesse Patterson, Will Isherwood, Steven Savage, Kirk Lancaster, James Zimmer, Kristie Wells-Fritz, Dirk McCall, JoJo Wellborn, Cole Wellborn, Kate Wellborn, Ed Green Robbie Amonett and Joseph Lazzari. We have some excellent photography courtesy of Jeffrey Skinner, The ArtCentriCity gang and many others.
Many of you know that we did two years of music and art shows at Johnny Mac’s. It was a blast; we discovered that fans would attend these shows in Fairhope. We want to do more. We want to have a venue that hosts music events, art events and can be rented for private events - something that could be open 8-10 times per month. We’ve made moves to acquire a venue and found a few spots. The problem in Fairhope is zoning. Basically, most almost everything outside of downtown will not allow a bar and venue without a restaurant. We don’t want a restaurant. Downtown has proven to be way, way expensive. If you know of something that could work, please let us know. A warehouse of some sort would be perfect, we have plans to build something that does not exist in this area.
30 years later, we’re still loving music and loving our customers. Thank you for being a part of it.
