Harvest Rush

Hello all, join us for Sunday Morning Gravel! Since the original Harvest Rush routes were rained out for the event last Sunday, I thought we'd ride them this Sunday. Jefferson Co. and its surrounding environs are the land of the 'Level B' and these routes have a lot of what probably attracted you to this ride in the first place. So come join us if you can and enjoy the 'MMR'.

We depart the Cider House at 10:30am.

All routes end at Cider House.

No snack stations, or support this time so plan accordingly.

See you Sunday,

Dirt Road Anthem, revised

Hello all, this Harvest Rush Gravel Grinder update isn't on the Fairfield Chamber website yet, but it will be tomorrow. So, if you're planning on doing the medium, or long route take heed: they have both been slightly revised due to a rather muddy low water crossing.

Here are the revised routes. You will know you have the right one downloaded/uploaded if it has the word 'revised' in the title.

Sunday Gravel #2

Hello all, Sunday is the new Thursday. The gravel rides will generally start at 10:30am this fall, unless we're doing a 'drive and ride' to explore new territory, (in which case they'll begin at 1pm).

This weekend the forecast calls for rain, but Sunday in the day looks dry. The routes have some 'Level B'; if they're too muddy we'll take a gravel, or a pavement workaround as needed, but I think they'll be passable even with some moisture.

We depart The Ride... at 123 N. Court St. at 10:30am on Sunday, Sept 16th.

All routes end at Cider House for brunch!

Hello all, I might not be brightest match in the pack, but I can read a forecast and Sunday looks wet. So let's ride...one more week on Thursday evening! Only a short and a solid medium effort so we'll have enough daylight and the weather looks great!

Shokai Short

Hello all! Thanks to everyone for cheerfully putting up with the 'hike-a-bike' section last week. We'll have to do that again...in like 5 years.

Come on out for the last Thursday Night Gravel of the year this Sept. 1st. The weather looks great.

We'll move the gravel rides to Sundays in the fall as it gets too dark to ride in the evening. We'll resume Sept. 11th and ride, weather permitting, until the season ending Holiday Lights Ride just before Christmas. More details to come.

A reminder that the Fairfield Chamber's Harvest Rush Gravel Grinder is about a month away, Sept. 24th. I'm nearly done with the routes and it's looking like all three will have over 1/3rd of the total miles on Level B. I don't think many gravel rides offer that much Level B. I'll take a mile of Level B over 10 miles of so called 'champagne gravel' any day. Check it out and register here: https://www.fairfieldiowa.com/calendar/harvest_rush_gravel_grinder/

We depart The Ride... at 123 N. Court St. at 5:30pm on Thursday, Sept. 1st.

Hello all, only a few more Thursday Night Gravel rides before we switch to Sundays after Labor Day due to the shortened days...So let's ride! Weather looks great! Please note that both routes this week have a 'cyclocross' section, (i.e. dismount and carry) at 4.6 mile mark. It's totally fun and do-able, unless you have an e-bike or child trailer. The workaround will be to continue north on Kelp Ave. to a left, or right, (depending on the route), at 185th St. instead of turning left onto Sunset Drive. If you have questions talk to me before the ride.

We depart at 5:30pm from The Ride... at 123 N. Court St. on Thursday, 8/24

The Kristina Gelfand Hot Pink Car Back Memorial Lockridge Loop Ride

Hello all, sorry for the delayed post, but I was hoping for a clearer forecast. So much for that...so let's ride anyway! We'll stick to the blacktop as it will likely be wet, but probably not actually raining. Just one loop route this time. If you would like to shorten it, I recommend an out and back variation. The route ends at Cider House.

This ride is in honor of Kristina Gelfand, who recently slipped her mortal coil. She was a long-time roadie, (before gravel was a thing) and really just a helluva gal. Come ride for a fun workout and in remembrance of Kristina if you had the pleasure of knowing her.

Remember: It's all about the ride, so have a good one.

Heat Stroke #3

Hello all!

Thursday Night Gravel is back! Come see what makes gravel and dirt riding so compelling, (use your imagination, ha ha :)! This week we just fast forwarded to July so be careful not to become overheated. Bring plenty of water, take breaks, buddy up and maybe take the easier route option to start the season.

We depart The Ride... 123 N. Court St. at 5:30pm Thursday May 12th.

All routes end this week at Cider House, where you can relax and rehydrate.

Be safe! Ride right. Wear/use helmets and flashers and obey the rules of the road.

How much do you charge for the average tune-up? (You have serviced my old bicycle a few times over the last 10 years...it’s in decent shape, I think.)
