MIll Update!
The mill is running smoothly.
4 employees, one full/time, Jasper Winters, 1 about 3/4 time, my daughter, Jessie, and 2 part-time (ish) Sage Fabrizio and Maria Gaffney.
As my folks age, I have started to transition more of my duties in to the house with Sage my BFF helping me. We are making goat milk soap, ice creams and pasteurized pints of milk for sale. Our best is the chocolate. We are also good at the raspberry, peach, mango and strawberry!
I do circulate into the mill for problem solving, blending questions, washing and dyeing at times.
I will be handling all the Etsy sales over the winter and we have a fun plan for that. One of the things planned is a special qiviut blend, that we can sell hopefully get the price down to a reasonable/affordable amount.
A new addition to the inside activity is making icord with supplies to make kits for names and designs. I’m also working on some beginning scarf and hat kits for both crochet and knitting.
I’m a lot like my dad in the need to be busy doing things, so we will always have something new going on.
Jasper, Jessie and my dad are working on finishing the barn before winter. It is large enough to house the hay above and pigs, goats, ducks and chickens below. This was a pricey little number but since the, neighbors up the hill, are stopping with the pig and pork sales, I figured why not. It will be awsome to use the eggs in the ice cream.
We have a plan to do the Goldstream Market on Sundays through the winter for our goat milk products, pork and eggs this winter.
My father, Ben, just turned 89. He is still healthy…but…he has started to slow down just a bit. I’ve heard, that people have witnessed his cart driving at Cosco and that he is a mad man, whipping around the isles.
Pat is still chilling here and healthy. She is the one that makes those museum quality, needle felted, animal sculptures and she makes our dryer balls. She gets special orders with the dryer balls and she is currently making the solar system. Those should be fun. She continues to cook our evening meals and puts down a big Sunday meal for our whole family and friends.
These are the good times. We recognize it and are enjoying it too!
