From John Glenn's Personal Collection

NASA McDonnell "Mercury Spacecraft" Model by Topping. Originally from John Glenn's Personal Collection, with LOA from Estate Sale. NASA McDonnell "Mercury Spacecraft" Model by Topping Originally from John Glenn's Personal Collection, with LOA from Estate Sale. Just like Friendship 7 in which he flew into the history books. A 9.5" long (with escape tower) model of the Mercury capsule on a 5.5" diameter hemispherical base with printed plaque: "Mercury Spacecraft/ NASA/ McDonnell". Overall height is 10.5". Made by Topping for McDonnell with label on bottom. Not common. Only the second example that Heritage has offered. How cool would it be to display John Glenn's own Mercury model in your collection? One spar missing on tower, minor split in one main strut. The base is still as bright blue color, these often fade to a greenish color. Displays excellently. Included with this lot is a Letter of "Verification Re: Estate of Senator John Glenn and Annie Castor Glenn" stating that this "Model of Friendship Capsule" was purchased on March 8, 2018, at the estate sale. Signed by representative of Greater Washington Estate Services. Provenance: Heritage Auctions, 5.11.2018., Space Exploration. where, including buyer's premium, this exact item brought $2,500. We have recently acquired a collection which includes Aviation and Space Exploration items. We will be adding items nearly every day. (35214) $2,200.00
