This is a replica of an 19th century rattle. The original was made by the Haisla tribe, of the Northern Heiltsuk peoples of Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada, circa 1850. It is now in a private collection.
As a creature that lives in two worlds, water and land, Frog is revered for his adaptability, knowledge, and power to traverse worlds and inhabit both natural and supernatural realms.
Frogs are a primary spirit helpers of shamans. A great communicator, Frog often represents the common ground or voice of the people.
In symbolic terms the emergence of frog from the mouth of a man represents an eruption of magic and unseen interior and other worlds.
Only shamans used these types of rattles.
Museum Source Reproductions is proud to present this exquisite hand carved replica.
All replicas are carved and painted by hand, therefore finishes and dimensions may vary. Some of the colors may show discoloration similar to aging and the interaction of wood, wax, and paint over time.
