I see a lot of activity here lately even tho I haven't posted in a long time. Lots of new followers and comments. I am alive and well and still involved with and enjoying comics. My hat is off to all the retailers out there still bringing you comics in an ever changing business environment. I will try and bring some new content to these pages when something of interest occurs.

Tomorrow it will be one year since I removed the key from the first and last All American Comic Shop and (gulp) retired. Amidst all the millions of things I seem to have to do, I have found time to read even more than I usually have. I go on kicks. The last few weeks it has been Bob Harris Era Marvel Comics from 95-00. I lost many of these in a flood in 2017 and thought I had replaced them all. However, I am finding many holes and am having fun replacing them and reading at the same time. However, I was stopped in my tracks when my new shipment from MyComicShop.com (tell them I sent you) arrived. First thing read out of the box was Avengers War Across Time #1. This may be the PERFECT 'Marvel Comic'! Written by Paul Levitz (his first work for Marvel) and drawn by Alan Davis (whose work is great anywhere). This story is set right after the events of Original Avengers #11. This is not new creators trying outdo the originals or redo the story era with 'modern sensibilities'. These are two seasoned veterans producing a comic with all of their hard earned skills evoking a period of time which they and all of us should love. Believe me, if I was still open I would be putting one in everybody's box or bag. I can't wait for #2. In the meantime I should start reading my early Avengers over. Only question is: Should I read my Originals, Masterworks, Omnibus, Essentials, Mighty Marvel Masterworks or Marvel Triple Action??? And you guys thought I only loved DC.............

Thanks to CD Mike Steele I was able to spend a few hours Friday at the Windy City Pulp Con. I was able to say hi to many old friends like Martin Grams, Stephen Haffner, Matt Bieniek, Douglas Klauba, Larry Charet and many others. However, the most fun was spending time with the legendary Jim Steranko. Jim and I have not spoke at length in nearly 10 years but took up right where we left off. I was even able to reintroduce him to our own 'Nerve Pinch Tom' Kyle. I'm not sure Jim remembered giving Tom the 'Nerve Pinch' while telling his Tower Comics story at a Con years ago, but he played right along. He even went as far as reenacting said pinch with a bone crushing hand shake that had Tom sweating like Ren & Stimpy rolled into one. He told Tom he doesn't give the 'Nerve Pinch' to just anybody and that he should be honored by the fitting nick name! Amid a week of horrible art losses, Steranko at 83 is truly a treasure and a survivor.

A pointless exchange on FB after I quipped about the cancellation of AquaMEN made me think about all the years I spent charting trends in books that always affected sales. In the old days creators were most important but for Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Thor it seemed every new creator fell back on the same 3 mistakes. 1)ORIGINAL APPEARANCE: No Battle Armor, Atlantean Garb or Facial Hair please! 2) STAY ON EARTH or at least the U.S. Too much time in Atlantis, Asgard or Themyscira would always bore readers and lose sales! 3) NO QUESTS: Comic Guys hate Quests! Like Star Trek Voyager they always end the same. EVERYONE COMES HOME! And this of course applies to everyone... Stay true to the original character. New Aquaman, New Wonder Woman or Lady Thor spell sales disaster.

AAInfo Corner #2: In late '68 (12 years old) I scraped up $8.00 (birthday money) and sent in for books advertised in the current Marvels. A 3 issue sub to RBCC (54-56), Illustrated Comic Collectors Handbook 1-2, RB Timely Special #8, & Golden Age #2. For that money I kind of expected hardcover books (comics were still 12 cents) and at first I was dismayed when they came in one 8 1/2 x 11 manila envelope. That $8.00 laid the groundwork for ALL of my future collecting and dealing days. I read every line and every ad dozens of times. I learned about characters & books I'd never heard of, artists, writers, publishers, back issues, pricing, grading & overall collecting. I learned about comics ancillary hobbies (no Pokemon or Funco then) like Old Time Radio, Movie Serials, and that the SF & character (Doc Savage, etc.) paperbacks I had started reading were not new but reprinted from something called 'pulps'. These were fanzines, and I instantly fell in love with them and wanted to publish my own. Something I did in the mid 70's.
