On Sunday look for our booth in Klamath at the Salmon Festival.
“The Klamath Salmon Festival is almost here! Join the Yurok Tribe on Saturday, August 16 to Celebrate the Spectacular Start of the Klamath River’s Renewal!
The Salmon Festival is free to attend, and features live music from Blue Mountain Tribe, an all Native, award-winning band that plays original blues tunes. The band will play two sets, at 12pm and 1:30pm.
The event also includes a parade celebrating Klamath River Renewal, kids’ activities, a basket-weaving demonstration, Stick Game, basketball and arm-wrestling tournaments, the Ney-puey Fun Run, and more.
The Yurok Fisheries Department will be screening three short films, including a segment of Shane Anderson’s upcoming feature film, “Undamming Klamath,” Lucy Raven’s “Murderers Bar,” and Our Changing Planet’s episode titled “River Restoration.”
A record number of vendors are signed up to sell high quality beads and jewelry, apparel, fine art, woodwork, glasswork, baskets and much more. Support local artists while buying gifts for loved ones and yourself.
Festivalgoers can also enjoy 20 local food vendors who will offer a wide variety of options, including Indian tacos, pupusas, hand-crafted donuts and refreshments like fresh lemonade and coffee.
The California Truth & Healing Council is inviting Yurok and other tribal citizens to share their memories as part of an oral history project Salmon Festival. Oral history recordings will take place from 11am-4pm. Please visit shorturl.at/rUQ5K to register to participate.
Please see the attached poster for the full schedule and visit the Festival page for more information. Free and secure parking and shuttles will be available off of Klamath Mill Road. Take Terwer Valley Exit (769) and follow the salmon signs. Please do not park on Highway 101. For everyone’s comfort and safety, pets are not permitted at the Salmon Festival.
This year’s festival received generous support from Yurok Telecommunications Corporation, Per-geesh Construction, Yurok Economic Development Corporation, Green Diamond Resource Company and LACO and Associates.”
