We have finally come out on the other side of painting in the Guestroom and feel like progress has been made! I love seeing how much of a difference that just paint can make for a space: swipe to see the Before and the Before-Before

I want to say a huge thank you to the sponsor for restocking my favorite paint supplies that you will never catch me painting without! If I had only one tip to give you for home renovation projects, it would be to have the best painting supplies, and that’s hands down! 👏🏻

A WEEK TWO progress update:
- I went ahead and switched the bed for holiday weekend guests and that alone made such a difference!
- I played around with different ideas for stenciling the upper wall and whether to repaint the wainscoting or not. to the rescue for my adhd and indecisive brain.
- The room has been cleared a bit and tarped for the upcoming weeks of painting painting painting.
- We are painting the ceiling to clean up aged spots on the 70s ceiling tiles. One day I plan to demo the unoriginal ceiling tiles, faux wall paneling, and wainscoting so we can get the base of the room back to how it looked originally in 1912, but for now paint will be a nice refresh until then!
- I went ahead and started painting trimwork and got back to pondering the color of the wainscoting. Swipe to see what the final decision was…
- The new light fixture delivered and I am so excited about it, I will share more on it next week when we install it, just a peek for now!

Have you ever heard of the term “project creep?”
Where one project slowly somehow turns into another and another until that one little thing you had planned to do is suddenly 10 things and in a completely different room in your home?
Recently, I came across my dream 4 Poster Rice bed frame that I had been wanting for my primary bedroom; which already had a 4 poster bed frame so l figured I will just move the first one into the guest room. It needed a proper bedtrame anyway.
This turned into: since I will be switching out the bed, I might as well refresh a few other things.
If there is finally an antique bed, I should really put more thought into styling other antique pieces so the Guestroom feels more period appropriate and designed versus thrown together.
And drapes that are really needed for privacy (sorry to my previous guests).
And if I was going to do all of this work, I might as well address a few other items such as fixing the closet door, removing the old carpet tack trips, repainting the floor and maybe painting the ceiling until I could do a full restoration of the room one day. If I was painting the ceiling, I might as well replace the ceiling fixture too…
What other pieces did I have stashed away that I could reuse in this room?

So, welcome to my :
Guestroom Refresh.

I am challenging myself to shop my house and reuse pieces I already have from years inheriting, collecting, being gifted, trash picking and thrifting!

A little progress update…
The vanity has been installed and needs its toe kick + paint. I am so glad that I decided to do an inset so that I could install this marble counter and round sink combo from . New things inspired by historic things really get me.
Once the faucet in polished nickel was installed, I knew I wanted to swap out the brass sconces for polished nickel as well and all of that together with the hardware is like jewelry on this bathroom.
Still a little ways to go to be complete, but it finally is starting to feel like the vision: a brand new bathroom that feels as if it was always here in this 1912 Queen Anne Victorian.
