Hey folks! We’re going from one weird week to another! 🌀 I’m closing up shop for a few days so I can chaperone my 5th grader’s class at Outdoor School. Yay! I’ll be back on Friday, and we still have space in Daina’s kinusaiga workshop on Friday evening 🌷 Saturday will be Little Friends and then Open Studio — this is the first Saturday in ages that I haven’t had a party or event, and I’m looking forward to some chill open studio time, together making art! See you then!

I was too busy having fun yesterday to take pictures!! Local artist Cindy Ingram .ingram.art came to Pudding to teach her first-ever abstract painting class, with a focus on loosening up and playing, just DOING without thinking too hard. She’s coming back for 2 more classes in May: May 16 (composition and contrast) and May 30 (color and texture). You’re welcome to join us! It’s a-ok to join in for any of the sessions, even if you didn’t attend the first one.

Hi friends! This week is unusual for the schedule but there is some REALLY GOOD stuff in there. No Art After School on Wednesday bc your art lady is moving into a new house 💖 Thursday: self portraits on transparency sheets! Saturday: ABSTRACT PAINTING WORKSHOP with That lady you met at that thing (I’m so excited!!!!) It’s going to be so fun, it’s family friendly, and I have some verrrry cool paint for us to use.

No open studio today ‼️ your art lady was taking care of a sick kiddo overnight 🥴 so I’m cancelling open studio. Awbrey Park staff night is still on for tonight! Thanks for understanding!

This is how we spent the morning at Art Camp today: building our own town, which the kids named Spark Town. This project got the whole group of kids ages 6-12 ALL engaged and working collaboratively, and it was magical!

And look… sometimes the whole STEAM concept annoys me. Art for the sake of *JUST ART* is enough. However 😌 it also lends so well to developing STEM skills too. Construction, physics, spacial reasoning, problem solving, teamwork/negotiation/communication, ideation… the rad conversations we had about city planning (“wait! We need to add the sidewalks BEFORE we place the buildings!”)… all amazing.
