Here is what a factory that makes the $3.00 neck on Epiphone, Squire and many other guitars looks like. Grand Rewards, Samick and other lesser known but equally large factories produce the vast majority of instruments that musicians play. For instance, a Fender guitar manufactured in an Asian facility costs about $35 USD from raw materials into the guitar case. So, the company can conceivably make good coin while selling for what seems like such a great retail price. No wonder there is no substantive manufacturing in the U.S. Still, it can lead one to wonder why Fender and Gibson have been reported to be $200 million debt, with Guitar Center being $1.6 billion in debt. Now that's real business, eh!
