Our friends at Sage Fly Fishing released a new reel: the Shift.

The Shift is replacing the Spectrum from Sage Fly Fishing, and we are super excited about it.

They have reconfigured the design making it stronger and lighter. The drag k**b is much easier to grab too making fine adjustments when fighting big fish a breeze.

These reels pair well with the new Arrow from Sage Fly Fishing or their flagship R8.

One of our favorite Gold Stone Patterns is Burkus’ Ba****ck Rider Gold Stone.

In a world full of bulky, overdressed Chubby Cheronobyls, the Ba****ck Rider Gold Stone is a fantastic more subtle option.

This is especially true in more pressured waters where fish will turn their nose up at your standard run of the mill gold Chubby.

We love to run small Caddis, or PMD patterns behind this fly. If we don’t have a small dry tagged behind it, we have a small tungsten nymph below it.

If you haven’t heard of the fantastic classic Click & Pawl reels from IWANAFISHING, you’re missing out big time.

These are artisan crafted click & pawl reels that take all of the great things about classic reels and merge it with modern machining capabilities.

This means you still get that classic look, but with tighter tolerances and getting an overall higher quality product.

Our monthly Fly Fishing & Tying Community Night is almost here!

Next Tuesday, July 21st at 6:00 please join us at our favorite for a night of community, connection, laughs, great food & drinks, and more!

Again, this month a friend of the shop and regular at our Community Night Alan is going to be teaching complimentary fly tying lessons sponsored by the shop .

Alan will instruct beginners on how to tie a Parachute Adam’s. Spots are limited so message us to secure a spot, swing by the shop, or give us a ring (541) 342-7005.

This is a great opportunity, if you haven’t been, to connect with the local fly fishing community. We’ve had a ton of new faces and new anglers dropping by so don’t be bashful, you won’t be the only new one!

You don’t have to be a fly flier either to pop in. Plenty of folks just come in to grab a drink, food, or just visit!

Fly tiers are encouraged to bring their vises and materials and get busy. We will be doing fly swap this month as well with prizes from and .

Crickets are an often overlooked insect under the more broad “terrestrial” umbrella of insects.

In this video, Simon ties an improved version of his late summer staple terrestrial, the “driftless cricket”.

When people think of terrestrial season, hoppers are typically the first insect that comes to mind. Grasshoppers are typically followed by beetles and ants in terms of popular flies thrown. Crickets are also a huge portion of a summer trout’s diet. This is especially true on smaller streams, spring creeks, and rivers with a lot of stream side brush. Because crickets are often overlooked, and very few commercial cricket patterns exist compared to other terrestrials, this makes them a fantastic option for pressured fish.

This fly utilizes a new resin from called “Top Coat Gloss”, which is specifically formulated to coat foam flies. This not only aids in durability, but helps with buoyancy. Believe it or not, foam can wet out. This resin really makes a huge difference on this improved version of an already productive fly.

Tie some up so you’re ready in the next few weeks when hatches slow and we really shift into terrestrial and attractor season.
