Here are the main reasons Harley riders make the switch from a 5-speed to a 6-speed transmission:

1. Lower RPMs at Highway Speed
The 6th gear is essentially an overdrive gear. At 70–75 mph, your engine is spinning noticeably fewer RPMs, which means less mechanical stress and a smoother, more relaxed cruise on long rides.

2. Better Fuel Economy
Directly tied to lower RPMs — when the engine isn’t working as hard at highway speeds, it burns less fuel. For guys putting serious miles on their bikes, that adds up fast.

3. Reduced Heat and Engine Wear
Harleys run hot to begin with. Dropping RPMs on the highway means less heat generated, which is easier on your engine, oil, and overall drivetrain long-term.

4. Smoother Power Delivery
The closer gear ratios in a 6-speed give you tighter steps between gears, so acceleration feels more linear and controlled — less of that “big jump” feeling when shifting, especially in the mid-range.

5. Modernization and Resale Value
The 6-speed has been standard on new Harleys since the mid-2000s. Upgrading an older bike keeps it current, improves the riding experience to match modern expectations, and can make it more attractive to buyers if you ever decide to sell.
Bottom line — it’s a worthwhile upgrade for anyone doing regular highway miles who wants a cooler, more efficient, and better-riding bike.

❌DOT Week❌
DOT WEEK for truckers refers to the CVSA International Roadcheck — the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual inspection blitz. Three days where law enforcement and DOT inspectors across North America conduct enhanced commercial vehicle inspections at weigh stations, ports of entry, and roadside checkpoints.
What actually happens:
Inspectors conduct Level 1 inspections — the most thorough category. That means a full walkaround of the truck and trailer plus a review of driver documents. Hours of service logs, medical certificates, CDL validity, drug and alcohol compliance. Then underneath the truck — brakes, tires, lights, coupling devices, fuel systems, exhaust.
Why truckers dread it:
Any out of service violation puts you on the side of the road immediately. Brakes are the most common OOS violation by a significant margin. A single bad brake adjustment on the wrong axle and your day is over. Your load sits. Your shipper is calling. Your carrier is calling. It compounds fast.
The culture around it:
Experienced drivers treat the weeks before Roadcheck like a pre-inspection ritual. Checking their own equipment, making sure logs are clean, verifying all lights are working. Carriers push their maintenance departments hard in the lead up.
The irony:
Most professional drivers who run clean equipment year round aren’t worried. Roadcheck mostly catches guys who’ve been ignoring deferred maintenance and hoping. The inspection blitz essentially just accelerates consequences that were already coming.
Two completely different worlds sharing the same name.

We def heard of the cases where buyers are scamming customers.
