This weekend while camping we had an invite to search for a logging camp from as early as the 1850’s. The ground cover and tree foliage was extremely thick this time of year which made it hard to swing and search. We did manage to recover a few items which we donated to the property managers. Items included a 1927 wheat penny, no date Indian penny, watch lid, an old fork and some iron chain links with 1/2 horse or oxen shoe. We were invited back.

Steve and I along with our wives enjoyed a camping weekend and added a little detecting. The campgrounds had a swimming/beach area. Steve scored with silver and gold. The best I could do was some pocket change and some cheap jewelry. It was still a successful day.

This 1950 1 Guinea was recovered recently while staying at a camp ground. My thoughts were it was carried as a good luck piece. If that was the case it turned out to be bad luck for them and good luck for me. It’s 21 to 22kt. Not a bad find.

Well another successful trip to Kentucky for Civil War relics. My finds displayed on white and my buddy’s on red. We had a variety of both fired and dropped .58 and .69cal bullets. In addition I recovered the spout from a canteen, a trigger guard from a musket and a beautiful patriotic token. The face of an Indian surrounded with stars on one side and a horse with rider on the opposite with the words The Federal Union It Must Be Preserved around the edge and the date 1864 on bottom. All in all a great trip with special thanks to the landowner. Next year can’t come soon enough.

Took a trip to Kentucky with a friend to do a little Civil War relic hunting. This was a first for Steve and he commented how he would be happy to find one relic. Well he did better than that. His finds are displayed on the white cloth. One of his coolest finds was the cannonball fuse. My recoveries are displayed in the blue. Those finds were from 2022 and we are planning a return in Feb 2023.
