Park and Blue Lakes have some really amazing smallmouth bass fishing RIGHT NOW! Fish poppers or trout fry imitations along the banks where the bass have made their spawning beds. There are also some huge trout rising to chironomid dry flies when the breeze is pretty calm. Some monster browns are also chasing the trout fry.

The weather is looking really good (especially late next week). Spring fishing is going to get even better than it already is. Time to get over here to the dry side!

Well, it appears the pike population in Lake Roosevelt is booming. If any of my friends want to help catch a lot of these to do our part to remove an invasive species, just call. I have the boat and gear too. Also, please help spread the word that it's not good to have pike in Roosevelt or the Columbia. They should not be released and anyone responsible for introducing them should be reported to the authorities.

Had to share this. I love the coloring in the body. Got me thinking of some new chironomid patterns

The new fly Matt designed last night paid off big today. Trevor got this beautiful 27" measured rainbow on it. Between Matt and Trevor there were over 50 fish hooked in about 4 hours this morning!

Nice fish!

Nice fish!

What you are looking at here is a rainbow over 20 inches that was one of a few I got at Rocky Ford the other day. I had to swish my rod in the water every two casts to get the ice out of the guides! The Ford is loaded with fish right now and I can't wait to get back down there on a little warmer day.

The fishing is great, so stay home!

The fishing is great, so stay home!

You tell yourself there are flies to tie, beers to consume, and sleep to catch up on – all things a day off is great for accomplishing.
