Nobody handed this country to us perfect.
It was built imperfectly by imperfect people who believed something worth building was worth fighting for.
And every generation since has had to decide the same thing.
Is it worth it.
The soldier who laces up his boots this morning in a place his family cannot find on a map already answered that question. Not with words. With the decision to show up anyway.
The veteran who came home carrying things that cannot be put down already answered it. Not with a speech. With the choice to keep going.
The mother who watches the news with her heart in her throat every time a foreign dateline flashes across the screen already answered it. Not with a flag pin. With the love that does not stop just because the distance is unbearable.
They are not perfecting a symbol.
They are perfecting a nation.
One decision at a time. One sacrifice at a time. One generation handing something better to the next and trusting them to carry it forward.
The flag is not a claim that we got it right.
It is a commitment that we will not stop trying.
That commitment lives in the soldier. In the veteran. In the mother. In every American who looks at what this country is and refuses to stop believing in what it could be.
Honor that commitment today.
Not with words.
With the decision to show up anyway.
