Notknapping

Notknapping Handcrafted accessories and decor. I mainly use natural materials like linen, felt, cork fabric, wool, cotton, and waxed canvas. I've asked them not to do that.

Everything here is handmade, by me, with the help of several vintage singers ranging from 60 to 70 years old, as well as modern sewing and embroidery machines. Most of my items are vegan; leather is noted when used. Where possible I use the smallest amount of processed material, and cut with the least waste. All of my materials, from zippers and hardware to fabric and thread, are high quality. I s

tand behind my work, please contact me if there is a problem with one of my makes, or if a gnome is keeping you awake at night with his singing.

Many of you know that we unexpectedly lost both of our dogs over just a few months last summer, and it was a hard road there for a while. Our sadness has turned to laughter and chaos - meet Nala. ❤️

What could be better than being part of the Great Lakes Fiber Show in a few weeks? Having Ohio cousins work with me that weekend! I'll be at the GLFS in Wooster, Ohio, May 23-24. Back to work!

I was making a few dozen pincushions filled with crushed walnut shells when I finally threw in fabric for a Bernina-branded one for ME!

It’s my bag, my favorite one to use and sell, and I’ve taken plenty of notes as it has evolved into its current form. Yet whenever I settle down to make a stack of them, I have to have the original on the table to remind me how I did it!

While I'm on the knitting post roll, have you used these row counters from Twice Sheared Sheep? Game changer! Continue knitting uninterrupted by clickers, hash marks, counting apps, scraps of paper, or just plain counting up your work. Hang it as any other marker and move it to the next ring when you come back to it. There's a moveable marker to indicate more than 10 rows, and I also got creative with marking increases and decreases. Really handy, and I love just continuing to knit without stopping. I believe my collection started with the now-closed shop in Downingtown, a set from Conversational Threads, and some direct order. They are definitely available at many yarn shops and REALLY worth trying. I've used them with equal ease in the round, flat, on dpns and circs.

I need some help! If you any of this style of knot-handle bags of mine, from me or from Cuddle Bugg Fiber Co by Yarningtown LLC, can you grab it and take some measurements for me? I changed that pattern and made the handles longer by the request of many users, and heck if I can find the pattern I wrote up! Thank you so much!

Another quick project this winter: mittens from a Woolstock Blue Sky Bundle. If you don't know them, oh my gosh, the joy. I have used other seasonal sets to make some of their patterns, like acorns and caps. Just delightful. This time I divided the bundle in half, laid out a pattern, and spliced the yarrns together ahead of time, into one ball. Voila - not as many ends to deal with, and a wider color change instead of thin stripes.

The bad news: They are too big for me.
The good news: They are not too big for one of my sons, who happily snatched them up.

It is on my list to make the Frost set this summer, although I really wanted them for the Jan-March months, so I have some time. Story of my life!

I grabbed Holiday Cheer and Holiday Frost at Conversational Threads, who usually has a variety of bundle colors. I used the charts for mittens in The Knitters Book of Patterns, a reliable set of basic patterns if you choose the correct gauge set!

I have meant to share some knitting projects for months now, since Christmas. Here is one, little leaves and flowers with pockets for "fairies and sprites". Making a little pile of them for some grandchildren, and I've managed to keep them secret and hidden until I have enough for everyone on the list. The two-year old is getting them with hats stitched firmly around the heads!

My yarn is Sandnes Garn Duo, a favorite while not an inexpensive option for this, but any dk will do. (I'm not going to lie. The skeins fit so perfectly into that bag that I didn't have a choice but to fill it up with color!) It's a compact little project to carry along to knit night or on a trip.

Pattern is from Susan B. Anderson, (check Ravelry), yarn from Main Line Purls, needles that have worked well with this yarn are Lykke dpns, and that is one of my favorite bags from many years ago that I am also planning to make soon with some fabrics I have collected. Off to add more pink petals to that flower!

I definitely made the right decision when I canceled today’s pop-up at Main Line Purls! You would have seen me and my tent blowing away!

DARN! I'm going to cancel tomorrow's pop-up at Main Line Purls; the predicted wind gusts are going to make it unsafe and uncomfortable for shoppers. I'm SO DISAPPOINTED, it's just a great time to hang around outside a yarn shop and chat with other fiber peeps! I'll see you next time, somewhere else....next big fiber festival for me is in May, in Central PA.

We are hosting a pop up shop! Stop by on Saturday to check out all of Anna's beautiful handmade goodies.
