🌺 Sunday Tip 🌺 Lau Lau is a beloved Hawaiian dish traditionally made by wrapping seasoned pork and butterfish in tender lūʻau leaves, then bundling everything inside ti leaves. It is slowly steamed until the meat becomes incredibly tender and the lūʻau leaves absorb all those rich, savory flavors.

For generations, Native Hawaiians prepared foods like Lau Lau in an imu, an underground oven heated with hot stones. Today, Lau Lau is often steamed, but it remains a favorite at family gatherings, celebrations, and traditional Hawaiian meals.

A quick tip: The lūʻau leaves are eaten, but the outer ti leaves are only used for wrapping and should be removed before enjoying! At the Hawaiian Hoosier - we remove the outer leaves before serving.

We are so excited to bring this island favorite to Ellettsville on Saturday, September 12! It's our Special WOW Lau Lau event.
