On this day in cooperative history, Rockingham Cooperative held a grand opening for their newly completed mill and egg plant on Grace Street in Harrisonburg in 1959.

The mill & egg plant were considered to be at the peak of innovation and efficiency when they were complete and their operation drew interest from other cooperatives all across the United States, and the world, to duplicate the success.

The Grace Street Mill was the tallest building in Harrisonburg during its time and could manufacture 30 tons of feed an hour.

On this day in cooperative history, Rockingham Cooperative began their annual wool pool events for 1943 which allowed sheep producers to pool their wool together when selling to get a larger collective price per pound.

These pools were done in cooperation with the United Wool Growers Association and, as you can tell were also conducted all across the state.
