Now ya'll.... We all know I'm pretty lax about buying different foods from grocers, restaurants and markets. I basically just go with my taste buds and eat all the good things, healthy or not. But, here's a fact....
The FDA has reclassified this latest egg recall as a Class 1 recall. What's that mean? Well, it means the millions of dozens of eggs recalled put people at imminent risk of severe illness or even death.
I haven't bought store eggs in so long I can't remember. One of my pass times at the grocery store is actually cruising by the egg section to laugh at the prices and make fun of all those plain, boring eggs that have been sitting around for weeks or months. My chickens, ducks and quail have turned me into an egg monster of sorts, I guess.
But!! Let's think deeper than eggs.... What about everything else? The recent diarrhea lettuce fiasco being just one example... What other allegedly regulated food products are teeming with cooties? How about some fly egg infested beef?? Yeah. Another more recent issue.
I can't stop shopping at the regular grocery stores cold turkey... But, I'll sure be relying more on three sources....
1. My own damn self/farm
2. My local friends & neighbors with their own home/farm produced items that I can't provide myself
3. Local produce/farm markets with locally grown and raised food products. OR folks I know process their own goods that ship to my area- because I know I've got some handy, talented, like-minded, far off and away family & friends.
Like previously stated, I can't just up and quit the grocery store... I haven't found anybody local growing coffee trees/beans and somebody that's not myself or Mr Murphy has a serious soda pop addiction in this house.
For now, I'm super glad I have home-grown produce and meat canned or in the freezer. I'll just work on finding sources for some other staple items like milled flour and corn meal that are grown and produced by someone's own hands and local orchards and fruit growers. These will be my baby steps in becoming more and more self-sufficient and less reliant on chain grocers and big box stores.
No, I'm not a conspiracy theorist or into any anti-government movements. I just really love food and prefer eating things that won't potentially kill me.
