Today we paused on bookstore renovations to attend the city’s monthly Chamber of Commerce breakfast meeting! It was hosted by Sycamore Shoals Stste Historic Park, the location of the Liberty production. They performed a skit, I met some local business people, gave out some Covered Bridge Books bookmarks, and had some tasty breakfast catered by Simply Elegant Catering. As a history lover who plans to have local books in stock at the bookstore, I must recommend everyone go see Liberty this June! There are over 100 performers and helpers, and tickets only go as high as $16 for adults.

Our bookstore Airbnb guests will have the most magical holiday view of our city’s Christmas tree. Imagine cozying up by this window with a cup of hot chocolate and a book as the snow drifts down and the Christmas lights glow.

The process of tearing down the overhang on this 1930s law office was fun to watch! Now it’s time for something spectacular at the bookstore… just as soon as we figure out how to move these heavy pillars.

It’s been a long time coming, but the front overhang (pillars, light fixture, and rails) are all being torn down today in preparation for something new and very exciting! Any guesses about how the front is going to change? For any people upset with the change, the overhang and rails had to go regardless because it was weather rotted. Stay tuned for the “after” and then the grand reveal later this summer!

Secured the lights for outside thanks to my Aunt Annie! She’s seen our concept photo and knew exactly what we were looking for! So excited to have these from Acclaim in Augusta, Georgia! Can’t wait to see them on the building in use.

Our Electrician - Paul with Steady Electric - has been busy updating all the electrical in our 1930s building! So much of it was out of code, and he’s done a wonderful job bringing us up to code. I really wanted him to get rid of the four boxes outside (the building used to run 4 different electric units) and he was able to condense it to one box. He’s a miracle worker. Just wait until you see all the updates on the inside he’s doing. Also, seeing a few bricks not painted pink really made me laugh.

Looking for your first summer read or a book on your buy list? You can support Covered Bridge Books now by buying your books through bookshop.org and having them shipped directly to your house! I’ve left “how to” details in the pictures, but long story short, you can buy any books you want (just like how you would on Amazon) or shop my curated lists and select Covered Bridge Books as your bookstore to support! After looking for weeks, I finally found the perfect pair of vintage beds to go in the Bookstore Airbnb (The Bookseller’s Suite).
