One of my past talents was dabbling in graphics, vinyl, and signs, so I decided to dust off those skills and put them to work making signs for us. Amy designed the layout, and from there, we were off and running.
I could have easily ordered these signs, had them professionally made, and had them installed. They likely would have been flawless.
And yes, if you look closely, you’ll find a few imperfections. Some of them have already been pointed out. 😊
But I’m completely okay with that.
My dad would have called those imperfections “birthmarks.” And somehow, that feels exactly right.
What I didn’t anticipate was how much I would enjoy the entire process. Ordering the components. Weeding the vinyl. Applying it to the signs. Figuring things out along the way. And finally, installing them.
But more than anything, I enjoyed the people who became part of the process.
Erika, helping us during her first few weeks at her new job.
Linda and her sourcing skills finding our panels.
Vicki Brown, with her spunky humor, somehow keeping Brian on schedule.
Josh Lawrence, arriving at just the right moment to help Brian carry in the sign panels—and then staying for a visit.
Ryan, quite possibly the most patient man on Maple Street, helping me with the vinyl.
And Curt Lewis, meeting us at the shop at 6 a.m. on a Saturday morning to help with the installation.
So yes, if you look closely, you’ll see a few imperfections.
But when I look closely, I see something entirely different.
I see community.
I see people willing to show up, lend a hand, share their talents, give their time, and cheer you on. I see people who may have had nothing to gain from helping, but helped anyway simply because they wanted to see us succeed.
And perhaps that is what these signs mean to me now.
They aren’t perfect—and neither are we.
Life isn’t perfect. Plants aren’t perfect. People aren’t perfect.
Maybe we aren’t supposed to be.
Maybe the little imperfections are what give things character. Maybe they become the stories we remember and the reminders of the people who helped us along the way.
So I’m not going to focus on the flaws.
I’m going to look at these signs and see every person, every laugh, every helping hand, and every little piece of community that went into making them.
And that makes them perfect to me.
I love our new signs. ❤️

It was a great day !

A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out today! Shop Hop was a success, and we loved seeing so many familiar faces and meeting so many new ones!

We love doing things a little differently around here, and we plan to keep it that way.

We’re also exploring new social platforms. Where do you hope to find us next?
