These handwritten books just came into the store and I’m honestly a little obsessed with them.

From what I can tell so far, they appear to be religious sermons or writings and are confirmed to be at least from the 1850s — possibly even earlier. The handwriting, the wording, the pages… it genuinely feels like holding a piece of someone’s life in your hands.

There are words throughout them like temperance, morality, wickedness, atonement, and virtue, and it’s fascinating seeing both the language and penmanship from that time period. Some people today can barely read cursive, let alone write like this.

I’m still researching them, so if anyone recognizes anything, has thoughts, or just loves strange old books as much as I do, let me know 👀📚

Our Bookish Fairy Garden Craft Night is this Sunday and honestly we’re kind of obsessed with how these are turning out 🌿📚✨

Everyone gets to create their own unique little fairy garden using open books, moss, tiny cottage doors, miniature details, and lots of whimsical cozy touches. All materials are provided, so you just have to show up ready to create something magical 💛

Hello Bookery Friends

The past couple weeks around the bookstore have been full of new projects, upcoming events, stacks of beautiful books, and honestly a little bit of creative chaos in the best way. We’ve got a few things coming up that we’re really excited about, including our Fairy Garden Craft Night and the launch of our new Victorian Sci-Fi Book Club, so we wanted to share a little bookstore update with you 💛

🌿 BOOKISH FAIRY GARDEN CRAFT NIGHT
Our next craft night is this Sunday, and we’ll be creating whimsical fairy gardens built around the adventure of books! You create your own garden with all materials that will be provided. We still have a few spots left if you'd like to join us!

We’re very excited to officially announce our new Victorian Sci-Fi Book Club hosted by Machelle Wood. If you love gothic atmospheres, strange inventions, classic sci-fi, and beautifully weird stories, this one is for you!

Join the Victorian Sci‑Fi Book Club, starting June 11, as we explore eerie nineteenth‑century visions of the future. Our first read is Mary Shelley’s haunting apocalyptic novel The Last Man. Civilization has ended and only one person remains. What happened, and why does it still feel so familiar?
Read boldly. Question progress. Bring a lantern.

We’ll dive into a gripping murder mystery or case file game, piece together clues, and debate suspects as a group.
