Misprinted banknotes are prized by notaphilists, those who collect paper money. Currency featuring overprints, mismatching serial numbers, misalignments and missing ink regularly sell for more than regular bills.

This 1996 $20 Federal Reserve Note is classified as a “Partially Obstructed Overprint Error”. This error occurs when something obstructs the printing process, for example some foreign object falling on a sheet before the printing plates press the design on the sheet. The result will depend on what stage the obstruction occurs, but normally there will be a blank spot on the note where the obstruction was.

When this note was printed at the Fort Worth western currency facility, it went through the first and second printings normally before something found its way onto the surface leaving behind a blank area of paper lacking the serial number and seals. Freshly graded Choice VF 35 by PCGS. A cool note to add to your error collection.

In 1994, French photographer visited Dave's and photographed what would become 3 generations of owners as part of his visual exploration of American Jewry.

Dave (pictures in the leftside teller window) received a call from Brenner asking to photograph the shop with his family present. Dave agreed and on one February evening this picture was taken.

In 1981, Brenner began photographing Jewish communities around the world, exploring what it means to live and survive with a portable identity and how Jews adopted the traditions and manners of their home countries and yet remained part of the Jewish people. He spent 25 years chronicling the diaspora of the Jews across the world from Rome to New York, India to Yemen, Morocco to Ethiopia, Sarajevo to Samarkand.

Now, almost 30 years later, Alan Jinich from the Frederic Brenner Archive has reached out.

Official ‘Type A’ torch from the Mexico 1968 Summer Olympics, constructed of black aluminum and a wooden handle, measuring 20.5″ in length and 4″ at its widest point. The upper metal ring features a pattern of six doves and the metallic label at the bottom reads “Mexico” twice. The base of the handle bears an affixed label that features the logo of the Games and names the designer, Manuel Villazon. The metallic bands exhibit some rippling, and the metal components are somewhat loose from the wooden handle.

The torch relay recreated the route taken by Christopher Columbus to the New World, and began on August 23, 1968, in Olympia, Greece. It notably traveled through Columbus’s birthplace in Genoa, where he set sail from Palos in Spain, and the first land he reached in San Salvador. In all, there were 2,778 torchbearers on the 13,546 km route. Complete with its original box and matching paperwork.
